IPL Playoffs 2024 Team Scenarios

1. KKR playoff qualification scenario

KKR consolidated their place in the top four after defeating MI in a rain-restricted match in Kolkata last night. With two games remaining, their attention now turns to securing a top-two spot. They have the potential to accumulate up to 22 points, which would tie the league record. Their next matches include a match against GT in Ahmedabad and then against RR in Jaipur. However, this is their last league game against Rajasthan, which may ultimately decide their goal of finishing in the top two in IPL 2024.

2. RR playoff qualification scenario

The recent defeat against CSK marked the third consecutive loss for Rajasthan Royals and marked a significant decline from their once dominance. Despite leading the league for most of the matches, RR are now showing signs of fragility. With two games left, they only need a win to secure a playoff spot. The remaining two matches are scheduled at their home ground, where they will face PBKS and current table-toppers KKR. The upcoming match against eliminated PBKS gives RR the best chance to secure a playoff spot.

If RR wins this crucial match, then CSK, RCB, DC and LSG will not be able to surpass them in the standings. However, if RR loses its remaining two games and remains on 16 points, it is possible for the other three teams to reach the same point total. In this case, the net run rate (NRR) may play a decisive role in taking SRH and CSK above the RR. Although LSG can also score 16 points, the possibility of surpassing RR in NRR is slim. Therefore, even if they lose consecutive games, RR has a good chance of getting a playoff spot.

3. IPL 2024 CSK Qualifying Scenario

CSK’s victory over RR puts them in contention for a playoff spot in a crucial match against RCB. A win guarantees a berth, but if they lose, they must ensure that the defeat does not exceed 18 runs to maintain a better NRR than RCB. They also relied on SRH and LSG to slip into the top four with the remaining games.

4. IPL 2024 SRH playoffs qualification scenario

SRH are leading the race for the third playoff spot in IPL 2024, but their qualification is uncertain. With two games left and 14 points left, it only takes 18 points to lock in a playoff spot. However, a defeat in their last two games could jeopardize their chances. CSK, LSG or DC may tie with SRH on points. If SRH lose both games, they may fall behind CSK and LSG. Their next opponents are GT and PBKS. Winning both games ensures their playoff spot and SRH can target the top two if RR lose their last two games.

5. IPL 2024 RCB Qualifying Scenario

RCB’s resurgence with five consecutive wins has made them a serious contender for a playoff spot and their last game against CSK in the league will prove to be a decisive encounter. A defeat will end RCB’s campaign, but a win will keep their hopes alive. To secure their berth, RCB will have to beat CSK by more than 18 runs (assuming they score 200) to surpass CSK’s NRR. While SRH and LSG are still a threat, LSG have already wrapped up two games when RCB took on CSK. If SRH and LSG lose their remaining games and stay below 14 points, and RCB achieves the above-mentioned victory, both RCB and CSK can advance to the top four.

6. IPL 2024 DC Qualifying Scenario

Delhi Capitals’ recent loss to RCB effectively eliminated them from playoff contention. With only one game left against LSG, DC can only accumulate a maximum of 14 points. However, even though SRH, LSG, CSK and RCB all ended with 14 points, DC’s NRR went against them, putting them at a disadvantage. The best-case scenario, which involves SRH losing their last two games badly, CSK beating RCB and LSG losing both games, gives DC little hope, bordering on wishful thinking rather than a realistic possibility.

7.LSG playoff qualification scenario

Sunday’s wins by CSK and RCB intensified LSG’s challenge. LSG’s NRR of -0.769 is the lowest among playoff contenders, and even if they win their remaining two games, they face a daunting obstacle. Although they can accumulate 16 points, their playoff hopes depend on the specific results. LSG required SRH to lose two games and remain at 14 points, and CSK lost to RCB and also remained at 14 points. In this case, LSG can secure a playoff spot by finishing third. However, if SRH wins at least one game and CSK beats RCB, LSG’s playoff aspirations will be thwarted as their NRR may not be enough to make the top four.

8. GT IPL playoff qualification scenario

The match between Gujarat Titans and Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday, May 13, was called off due to rain. As a result, last season’s runners-up Gujarat Titans became the third team after Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab to be eliminated in the official knockout round of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs.

9. IPL 2024 PBKS Qualifying Scenario- Uncontroversial

Their playoff bid is over, and their hopes of even finishing in a tie for fifth place are slim at 0.6%.

10. IPL 2024 MI Qualifying Scenario- Uncontroversial

MI’s playoff hopes were also dashed. The highest position they can reach is tied for seventh, and even that possibility is only 2.3%.
