The finale reveals that Gokce’s husband Kenan died after a conflict between the manuscript’s author Duygu and a man named Metin. This event leaves Gokce devastated and struggling to cope with the consequences.
In the film, some clues suggest that these events may have been manipulated by the previously introduced writer Tana Alpa. Alpa’s new book “Ashes” is very similar to Gokce’s experience, which makes people speculate that he was involved in the planning of these events.
The final scene shows Gokce standing on a train platform with her son, suggesting that she may have committed suicide. However, the ending is open to interpretation, and the audience cannot help but question whether Gokce’s fate is real or part of Alpar’s fiction.

Ashes Conspiracy
Gokce and Kenan are a seemingly happy couple who live in a luxurious house with their son. Despite their lavish lifestyle and successful career, Gokce feels unsatisfied. When she reads a manuscript titled Ashes at Kenan’s publishing house, Gokce’s life takes a dramatic turn.
The manuscript tells the story of a married woman’s search for more excitement in her life and her encounter with a mysterious man named “M.” Curious, Gokce seeks out the bakery mentioned in the manuscript and meets Metin, a brooding carpenter whose name begins with “M.”
Gokce’s attraction to Metin grows, and Metin hires him to make mirrors, which provides an opportunity for their relationship to develop. As Gokce’s relationship with Metin grows closer, her relationship with Kenan suffers, and she neglects her responsibilities as a wife and mother.
Meanwhile, Kenan grows increasingly suspicious of Gokce’s actions. When Gokce reaches the end of the manuscript, which suggests that “M” murdered the author, tensions between Gokce and Kenan escalate. Gokce’s romance with Metin and the events in the manuscript begin to blur the line between reality and fiction, leading to a dramatic clash between the characters.

In Ashes, director Tepeguz and screenwriter Isik attempt to create a clever psychosexual thriller akin to Park Chan-wook’s Decision to Leave. The story follows a familiar theme: a neglected spouse seeks excitement outside of the marriage due to emotional and sexual dissatisfaction.
However, the film struggles to find a balance between love and lust, often relying on clichés and repetitive music to convey romance. The lead couple, played by Alperen Duimaz and Funda Elijit, lack natural chemistry, making their relationship seem forced and predictable.
While they have plenty of passionate scenes and display natural chemistry, the overall portrayal of their romance falls short, and as the film veers into thriller territory, it fails to deliver an impactful twist, leaving audiences disappointed.
Despite these shortcomings, Mehmet Gunsur performs very well as the “other” factor in the story. Overall, Ashes attempts to explore complex themes but fails due to its inability to effectively balance romance and suspense.
