Clone High is an American animated television show created by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Bill Lawrence. The show first aired on the Canadian Teletoon channel on November 2, 2002, in the late night time slot The Detour On Teletoon.
The show is set at a high school where many famous historical figures are cloned as teenagers, including teenage versions of Abraham Lincoln, Joan of Arc, Gandhi, Cleopatra, and JFK. It is a satire of teen shows like Dawson’s Creek and Beverly Hills, with each episode introduced by Will Forte as a “very special episode”.
Lord, Miller, and Lawrence came up with the concept while at Dartmouth College, originally titled Clone High School, USA! Although Fox initially rejected the show, MTV took it over and aired it from 2002 to 2003. The animation style is simple, with a greater focus on humor and storytelling.
The theme song was written by Tommy Walter and performed by his band Abandoned Pools, which also provided much of the background music.Despite initially mixed reviews, Clone High received critical acclaim and a loyal fan base.
In July 2020, it was announced that the show would be revived with the original cast returning. HBO Max ordered two seasons, which premiered on May 23, 2023. The second season of the show, also known as the third season, premiered on February 1, 2024.
