Queen of the Universe doesn’t revolutionize the singing competition format, but it’s an improvement over the first season. Adding a surreal element is the addition of a hottie to the judging panel who is committed to being an honest judge. If you don’t like TV singing competitions, this series probably won’t change your mind. However, if you enjoy the genre or are a fan of drag queen shows, this is a show worth watching with incredible drag talent.

Queens of the Universe is a competitive television series focused on singing drag queens. Produced by World of Wonder and hosted by Graham Norton, the show features a panel of four judges with diverse backgrounds in music, drag and reality TV. Contestants showcased their talents in hopes of winning the grand prize of $250,000.
The first season of the show premiered on Paramount+ on December 2, 2021, and was successful enough to be renewed for a second season in February 2022. However, in June 2023, it was announced that the show was canceled after two seasons and would soon be removed from the streaming service.
In the first season, Grag Queen from Brazil won the championship and Ada Vox from the United States was the runner-up. In the second season, Taiga Brava from Mexico won the championship, and Trevor Ashley from Australia was the runner-up.
queen of the universe review
With only six episodes per season, there is limited time to get to know the contestants. Unlike Drag Race, this series eliminates participants quickly. Season two highlights the shared experiences of queer individuals through a diverse cast. Notable contestants include Jazell Royale, a transgender beauty queen from Jacksonville, Florida, who has established herself as a strong contender, and Trevor A, who represents Australia and the United Kingdom respectively. Trevor Ashley and Viola.
Contestants usually gravitate toward ballads, but those who choose pop/dance tend to make a bigger impact. California’s Militia Scunt gave a dynamic performance of “Just Got Paid,” while Love Masisi from Drag Race Holland mesmerized with Todrick Hall’s “Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels.”
The series follows a familiar music competition format, with introductions showcasing the contestants’ personalities and storylines. Season two reduced the number of contestants from 16 to 10, eliminating the chaos seen in the previous season.
Judgments for Queen of the Universe remain relatively tame, except for Mel B., who is fearless in dishing out criticism and getting mixed reactions from audiences. The internationalization of the show became a challenge as contestants who were not fluent in English faced difficulties communicating with the all-English speaking panel and audience. Non-English speakers are often criticized more harshly and eventually eliminated.
