About Rabindranath Tagore

Robindranath Tagore, born on May 7, 1861, dramatist, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He was the youngest child of Sarada Devi and Debendranath Tagore. He participated in the Bengal Renaissance with his family at a very young age. At the same time, he also began to write poetry and create artwork. He published the short story “Bhikharini” in 1877 and the collection of poems “Sandhya Sangit” in 1882, both under the pseudonym Bhanusimha.

Influenced by the poetry of Kalidasa, he began to compose his own classical poetry. The creator of Gitanjali’s “profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful” poetry, he made literary history in 1913 when he became the first non-European and the first lyric poet to win the Nobel Prize. He transformed Indian art, Bengali literature and music through the contextual modernism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Although Tagore’s “elegant prose and magical poetry” were largely unknown outside Bengal, his melodious lyrics were considered spiritual and mercurial. He is also known as the “Bard of Bengal”, Guru Deb, Kobe Guru and Biswa Kobe.

His final years were spent in extreme discomfort, and in 1937 he fell into a coma. Later, on August 7, 1941, he went through untold hardships and breathed his last in his ancestral home.
