Wakefield left a lasting legacy during his 17-year tenure with the Boston Red Sox from 1995 until his retirement in 2012. Notably, he was the Red Sox’s longest-tenured player, with career earnings totaling $55 million.
Wakefield retired at age 45, ending an illustrious 19-season MLB career and becoming the oldest major leaguer to retire. His illustrious career included a historic milestone: on September 13, 2011, he achieved his 200th career win.
