At the end of The Walking Dead: Survivor episode 1, there was a major reveal. The main character, Rick Grimes, was attacked while on a helicopter. It was a surprise attack, and Rick was shocked to find out that the one behind it was another important character, Michonne. Unbeknownst to Michonne, Rick was on the helicopter and was a soldier in the CRM organization.
After Rick went missing, Michonne had been searching for him. She left her home and children behind to go look for him. During her search, she met other survivors who helped her, such as Nat, who was good at making weapons. With Nat’s help, Michonne managed to shoot down the helicopter. This led to Michonne and Rick reuniting after a long separation. It turned out that Michonne had been planning this attack for some time in the hope of finding Rick.
Also, in this episode, we learn more about Rick’s reasons for joining the CRM Army. He was convinced by a leader named Okafor, who believed that Rick could help make positive changes within CRM. Overall, the end of the first episode reveals a lot of the characters’ motivations and sets the stage for the rest of the series.

The Walking Dead: Survivor tells the story of former deputy sheriff Rick Grimes and skilled warrior Michonne in a post-apocalyptic zombie-infested world. The Walking Dead: Survivor was developed by Scott M. Gimple, Danai Gurira, and Andrew Lincoln. The series was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022. The series is the sixth spinoff of The Walking Dead and the seventh television series. The series was originally titled The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne, but was later renamed The Walking Dead: Survivor in July 2023.
Gimple, Gurira and Lincoln played key roles in shaping the series’ direction and storylines, with Gurira and Gimple serving as creators and writers, and Gimple also serving as showrunner.
The series’ developments tie in closely with the events of The Walking Dead series finale, “R.I.P.”, which saw Rick and Michonne return. This sets the stage for “The Living,” exploring the consequences of their return and their subsequent journeys in a post-apocalyptic world.
Filming on the series, tentatively titled Summit, began on February 15, 2023, and concluded on May 29, 2023, in New Jersey. Additional filming and ADR sessions took place during the 2023 Screen Actors Guild and Television and Radio Artists Guild strike.
The Walking Dead: Survivor premieres on AMC and AMC+ on February 25, 2024. The series was developed to continue the legacy of The Walking Dead franchise while offering fans new adventures and storylines centered around beloved characters.
