Vaccine War ending explained and spoilers
The “vaccine war” has ended with the successful development of COVAXIN, India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially, the vaccine faced skepticism and backlash, in part due to media coverage and a lack of WHO approval. This creates international travel hurdles for vaccinated Indians.

The climax of the film occurs at a press conference where officials from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the National Institute of Virology (NIV) discuss these challenges. They defend the effectiveness of vaccines and debunk misinformation. This moment is critical to counter negative perceptions and restore confidence in COVAXIN. One notable aspect is the censorship of the media depicted in the film, especially of journalist Rohini Dhulia. Her doubts about the vaccine’s efficacy and challenges to the credibility of the scientific community have sparked criticism of media practices and the influence of the pharmaceutical lobby.
In a dramatic twist, key figure and leader Professor Balram has refuted the negative portrayal in the media. He emphasized the scientific community’s commitment to the nation’s welfare over government policy. The Supreme Court intervened and ordered the removal of negative news about COVAXIN and the imposition of a gag order. This was described as a testament to the scientists’ efforts. The film ends with a personal perspective, revealing the impact of the pandemic on the scientist’s family. It also touches on the mental health struggles their children face, highlighting the often unseen personal sacrifices “COVID warriors” make.
The final scene symbolizes the climax of the collective ordeal, showing Professor Balram’s conciliatory gesture towards Dr. Priya Abraham. The gesture represents science’s triumph over adversity and underscores the scientific community’s resilience and dedication during one of the most challenging times in recent history.

The vaccine, called BBV152, is made from a SARS-CoV-2 strain (NIV-2020-770) obtained from tourists arriving in New Delhi. The team carefully sequenced the “Vero CCL-81” cells and stored the resulting genome sequence in the GISAID database. Their hard work paid off as they announced the successful development of an inactivated, whole-virion SARS-CoV-2 vaccine – BBV152.
The vaccine showed promising results, eliciting neutralizing antibody responses in animal studies, and entered Phase I clinical trials against hCoV-19/India/2020770. The unfolding of this story is a testament to the relentless efforts of these scientists in a race against time to combat a global pandemic, demonstrating collaboration and scientific prowess in the face of adversity.
