Finals gameplay

The “Finals” game features intense team battles in a virtual game show environment. Players choose from three character classes: Light, Medium, or Heavy, each with unique abilities and attributes. Light characters prioritize speed and agility, but have low health, making them ideal for hit-and-run tactics.

Medium characters strike a balance between offense and support, being able to heal teammates and deploy turrets. Heavy characters excel in durability and firepower, but sacrifice mobility. Matches unfold in a free-for-all format, with 3 or 4 teams fighting for victory.

The game’s arenas feature destructible environments, dynamic weather conditions, and a constantly changing time of day, creating opportunities for emergent gameplay. Players can manipulate terrain, utilize suspended objects, and construct temporary obstacles to gain strategic advantage.

During the game, fallen players will turn into statues, and teammates can revive them using defibrillators or rebirth coins. Quick game mode provides unlimited rebirths, while tournament mode limits rebirth opportunities, adding strategy and tension.

“Grand Finals” encourages players to use teamwork, adaptability and creative thinking in an ever-evolving challenge. “Grand Finals” combines exciting combat and dynamic environments to bring a thrilling gaming experience for casual players and competitive enthusiasts.

Finals Development

The Finals’ development journey began at Stockholm-based Embark Studios, as the studio’s first game alongside Arc Raiders. The developers stressed destructibility as a core aspect of the game, aiming to revolutionize the way players interact, allowing for unconventional tactics such as blowing through walls instead of using doors.

The game was originally announced for PC in August 2022, with subsequent releases expanding the game’s reach to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. A closed beta test in early 2023 allowed selected players to experience the game exclusively and provide feedback on the game’s mechanics. An open beta test was conducted later that year, expanding the player base and building anticipation for the full version.

On December 7, 2023, at The Game Awards, The Finals was released on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The game features full cross-platform functionality, allowing for a seamless multiplayer experience across different systems.

However, the game’s launch was challenged, and due to server performance issues, the developers had to implement a temporary player cap to stabilize the experience. Despite these setbacks, the Grand Finals development team remained committed to polishing the game and addressing player concerns.

As Grand Final continues to grow, its innovative approach to development and commitment to player engagement paves the way for exciting gaming experiences and a vibrant online community.
