Star Ocean Part 2 Story R Difference
In the updated version of Star Ocean: Second Story R, there are some changes compared to the original game and its previous version, Second Evolution.
Graphics and sounds:
- The game still uses the original 2D character sprites, but now they have dynamic lighting effects to make them blend better into the game environment. This feature is similar to other games like Octopath Traveler and Streets of Rage 4.
- Town, dungeon, and overworld backgrounds are now made from 3D models rather than pre-rendered images.
- Motoi Sakuraba composed the new score. Players can switch between classic and new music at any time.
- Players can choose from different voice options, including new Japanese voices from the original cast, original Japanese voices from Second Evolution, and original English voices from Second Evolution.
- Players can mix Japanese dubbing for each character. However, since there are no new recordings, the feature doesn’t work with the English dub. Players can also turn off voice acting if they wish.
- In the status menu, players can select a character portrait from the original Second Story, Second Evolution, or Second Story R. However, these choices do not affect in-game cutscenes.
- These changes enhance the graphics, sound, and voice options in Star Ocean: Second Story R, giving players more choices and an improved gaming experience.
