- Rabindranath Tagore was not only the first non-European but also the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
- Tagore’s Nobel medal was stolen from Shantiniketan in 2004. He was again honored by the Swedish Academy and produced two silver and gold replicas.
- In 1915, Rabindranath Tagore was knighted by King George V of England in recognition of his outstanding contributions to literature.
- He is the author of the national anthems of Bangladesh and India and the national anthem of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Mata.
