Beyond survival, the wagon is a customizable asset that provides repair options and personalization in the player’s garage. Development on Pacific Road began in 2019, when creative director Alexander Dracott conceived the game while driving across the Olympic Peninsula.
Pacific Road was released on PlayStation 5 and Windows on February 22, 2024, and received critical acclaim for its immersive atmosphere, well-crafted characters, and detailed vehicle design. Despite the praise, the game was criticized for being repetitive and challenging, making the player’s journey of survival both fun and difficult.
Pacific Avenue Anomalies and Enemies Guide
The Pacific Avenue Anomalies and Enemies Guide helps players overcome challenging obstacles in this survival game. From dangerous weather anomalies like the Hurricane Storm to special threats like the Bubblegum Buddies, this guide provides insights and strategies.
Hurricane Storm:
Pacific Avenue introduces Hurricane Storm, a dangerous weather anomaly found at certain intersections. Once in this area, your car will be constantly pushed in different directions, with a radius that is clearly visible in light green. Traversing this area can be challenging, with the possibility of collisions with other hazards or obstacles.
dark:
At certain locations, the entire intersection is completely dark, so be careful of permanent darkness. To prepare for this, carry extra headlights and flares in the trunk to illuminate your surroundings, which is essential to avoid potential dangers.
Hot Dust:
Heat Dust is similar to radiation, spreading across an area. Entering its radius triggers a radiation spike that gradually depletes your character’s health. However, if your interior and vehicle are intact, the threat is manageable.

Cough Box:

Compared with thermal dust, cough box is more harmful, it is a poisonous gas in swampy areas. It not only harms your health, but also corrodes the durability of your vehicle parts.
Bollards and Shakers:
At first, the bollards are insignificant, but can become troublesome as they periodically pop up from the ground, causing your car to tumble. Yellow-outlined shakers erupt if a vehicle passes over them, adding another layer of challenge.
Airstrip:
Airstrips are smoky areas that can lift your car into the air when you pass over them. Although airstrips are clearly visible, avoiding them is difficult due to the large area covered, and requires keen observation to find the gaps.

Kidnappers and Bubblegum Buddies:
Abductors are floating robotic devices that pose a science fiction alien threat. If spotted, they will latch onto your car and cause severe damage. Even stranger, but no less problematic, are Bubblegum Buddies, who will stick to your car and gradually dismantle it for parts.
Sparkling Towers and Scorching Mist:
Spark Towers are powered by Plasma Drives and emit arcs of electricity. Avoiding the arcs and using the Hammer Tool can extinguish them. Scorching Mist is a stationary hazard that damages vehicle circuits within a medium radius.
Creeping Wreckage and Militia:
During your exploration, you’ll come across abandoned vehicles that you want to demolish. However, the creeping wreckage is a trap that activates a device that can electrocute you. Militia are small pylons that form an electrified circuit and need to be navigated carefully to avoid being hit.

Tourists and Glittering Boulders:
Visitors are humanoid creatures that appear harmless, but can be deadly in large numbers, causing significant damage. Glittering boulders are explosive hazards that suddenly increase in speed when approached, potentially causing collisions with other obstacles.
Furry Creepers and Bunnies:
Unlike static explosives, the Shaggy Scrambler moves toward you. Speed is key to avoid trouble. Bunnies, nasty critters, and other creatures can chew on your car and cause it to spin out of control. The Shaggy Scrambler has multiple variations, each with unique challenges.
Spiked Puddles and Creepers/Can Openers:

Spike puddles are a sticky black substance that can quickly damage tires. Creepers and can openers are mechanical ground moving creatures that have clear paths that indicate their path. If these paths are not avoided, they can cause tire damage and hinder the movement of the car.

Pacific Avenue Gameplay
In Pacific Roads, players will embark on a survival adventure set in the 1998 Olympic-restricted Pacific Northwest. The game unfolds from a first-person perspective, and players will traverse the land on foot or in a station wagon.
A unique feature of the game is that players can customize their vehicles in the garage, which serves as the game’s central base of operations. Vehicle diagnostics are managed through a headset, allowing players to troubleshoot issues such as unusual vehicle behavior (such as the horn unexpectedly sounding when turning the steering wheel). Repairs in the game range from immediate repairs such as changing a flat tire and using a blowtorch to more complex tasks handled in the garage.
The Invention Station in the garage becomes a key resource to collect materials and build machines to open new routes, refuel cars, and destroy areas. Facing challenges such as metal monsters grabbing cars and weather factors affecting vehicle handling, players must develop repair strategies and navigate electrical anomalies and obstacles.
The journey isn’t just about survival; players can discover crafting recipes, blueprints, and interact with non-player characters to escape the Olympic Exclusion Zone, while collecting energy cores in each level to unlock gates and return to the garage, triggering a shift in the game’s dynamics with increased hostility and an impending storm.
