On April 30, a 24-year-old nurse, Surya Surendran, died after accidentally eating oleander leaves.
According to sources, the nurse has found a new job in the UK and is ready to leave on April 28. However, she accidentally chewed a few leaves from the oleander plant, resulting in accidental oleander poisoning that cost the nurse her life.
Shortly after swallowing the leaves, she felt uneasy. She also vomited for a while. Next, she collapsed at the Kochi airport later in the day. The nurse eventually died after spending several days in the hospital. When the doctor asked her about her dietary history, she said she had eaten oleander flowers and leaves. The medical examiner made it clear to the police that she was poisoned by oleander.
