Minecraft Snapshot 23W42A Patch Notes

Experimental features

artisan

  • Crafter is a new block that can craft items and blocks with redstone
  • Crafters will eject crafted items one at a time when powered by a new redstone signal/pulse (not a continuous signal)
  • After receiving this new signal, Artisan will pop up the recipe results from the front
  • If the output result has multiple types of items, all result items will pop up together
  • When placed, the craftsman can face any direction

Artisan UI

  • Crafter has a 3×3 interactive crafting grid
  • The Craftsman’s crafting grid slot is toggleable, meaning players can change the slot’s behavior by clicking or pressing the slot with their bare hands
  • “Switched” slots cannot hold any items, so items cannot be placed into other blocks, such as hoppers and droppers
  • Unlike the crafting table, the Craftsman will show a preview of the crafted item, which will be crafted and ejected on the next redstone pulse, but cannot be manually removed by the player.
  • Crafter UI is shared between all players interacting with Crafter, meaning multiple players can interact with Crafter at the same time, similar to Chests and Hoppers

Interaction of craftsmen with other blocks

  • Comparator signal strength is 0-9, where each non-empty or toggled slot increases the strength by 1
  • Hoppers can be used to insert and pull items from Crafter
  • The dropper can be used to insert items into the crafter
  • Moving an item from another block (e.g. hopper, dropper) will prioritize items into slots according to the following rules:
    • Prioritize the first empty slot (from left to right, top to bottom)
    • If there are no empty slots, the smallest stack of the same item is preferred (if there are more than one, the first one is chosen)
    • If a switch slot exists, it will be skipped. The item will then be moved to the container
    • If the item cannot be moved, it will be ejected into the world

Variety

  • Added an accessibility option that allows hiding the yellow startup text in the main menu
  • Added recovery screen for worlds that have lost data (e.g. if save failed due to unexpected shutdown)

technological changes

  • Packet version is now 21
  • Resource pack version is now 19
  • Minor changes to chat component serialization

Chat component

Serialization

  • Optional type fields have a new allowed value: selectors
  • Components of type nbt now have source fields with allowed values entity, block, storage

Packet version 21

  • Introduced Jigsaw structure pool aliases that can be used to reconnect pool selections
  • Added field block_state to tnt entity to allow replacement of rendered block model
  • Rename field Fuse to fuse on tnt entity
  • Added playersNetherPortalDefaultDelay and playersNetherPortalCreativeDelay game rules to control how long in ticks a player needs to stand in a Nether portal before changing dimensions
  • Added new game rule projectile CanBreakBlocks to control whether impact projectiles destroy blocks they can break, namely chorus flowers, dripstones, and decorative jars
  • Added white_smoke particle type

Puzzle pool alias

  • Added optional pool_aliases list to Jigsaw structure
  • Alias represents the possibility to reconnect Jigsaw pooled connections by redirecting pool references on individual structure instances
  • Alias variants are represented by types and are one of the following types:
    • Direct 1:1 mapping from alias to new pool
      • Alias pool to replace
      • The target pool to replace with
    • Random 1:n mapping where n pools are randomly selected for struct instances
      • Alias pool to replace
      • The target is a random list of candidate pools to replace aliases with
    • random group
      • Each group is a random list of the above alias types
      • Select only one set per structure instance
      • This enables modeling choices such as “if pool X is replaced by X1, also replace pool Y with Y1”

Resource pack version 19

  • Added block model, item model, and block state definitions for crafters
  • Added GUI container textures and sprites for crafters
  • Added white_smoke particle definition

Minecraft is a sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios that debuted in 2009 under the creative direction of Markus “Notch” Persson and is written in the Java programming language. After a series of private beta versions, it was publicly launched in May 2009 and officially released in November 2011, with development led by Jens “Jeb” Bergensten.

The game has achieved extraordinary success, becoming the best-selling video game of all time, selling over 300 million copies and maintaining nearly 140 million active players in 2023. In Minecraft, players are immersed in a blocky, procedurally generated 3D world that is almost endless. terrain.

They gather resources, design tools, build structures, and interact with the environment while adapting to their chosen game mode. This can involve fighting hostile mobs, cooperating or competing with other players, and choosing between survival mode (requiring resource gathering and health management) or creative mode (with unlimited resources and flight).

The game’s vast community contributes user-generated content including mods, servers, skins, texture packs, and custom maps that expand the game’s possibilities. Minecraft has won widespread acclaim and is regarded as one of the greatest video games of all time.

It influenced pop culture, education, and even led to its acquisition by Microsoft in 2014 for $2.5 billion. Numerous spin-offs, such as Minecraft Story Mode, Minecraft Earth, Minecraft Dungeons and the latest addition, Minecraft Legends, further enrich the series.

Minecraft gameplay

Minecraft is a 3D sandbox game known for its open-ended gameplay, offering players a huge degree of freedom with no forced goals. Instead, it has an achievement system, known as “Progress” in the Java version and various names in other versions. The game is usually played from a first-person perspective, but a third-person perspective is also allowed.

The Minecraft world is made up of 3D blocks representing different materials, including dirt, stone, water and lava, which form the basis of the game’s core mechanics. Players gather and place these blocks in a grid-like world, fostering creativity and building abilities. Notably, Minecraft features a unique material called redstone that allows the creation of complex mechanical devices, circuits, and logic gates.

The game world is nearly infinite and procedurally generated, with boundaries imposed primarily on vertical movement. Biomes such as desert, jungle, and snow alter the terrain, while a day-night cycle governs gameplay time. Players can choose from different game modes and difficulty settings, affecting challenge and play style.

Minecraft introduces many creatures, from friendly animals to menacing monsters. Players will encounter passive creatures such as cows and pigs to harvest resources, while hostile creatures such as zombies and skeletons lurk in the darkness. The game’s rich ecosystem includes unique creatures such as creepers and endermen, each with unique behaviors. All in all, Minecraft’s open world, creativity, and diverse creature interactions create an immersive and engaging experience.
