Like a Dragon: Unlimited Wealth

“Yakuza: Infinite Fortune” is a role-playing game produced by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. It is the ninth main game in the Yakuza series and a direct follow-up to Yakuza: Like a Dragon (2020) and the spin-off Yakuza Gaiden: The Man Who Erased his Name (2023).

The game stars Ichiban Kasuga, the protagonist of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Kazuma Kiryu, the protagonist of the original series. The story unfolds in Hawaii, marking the show’s first foray into overseas settings as well as familiar locales in Japan. Kasuga and Kiryu join forces with old and new friends to help reunite Kasuga with her mother in Hawaii.

Meanwhile, Kiryu battles lung cancer, adding emotional depth to the story. Yakuza: Infinite Fortune releases on January 26, 2024 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. Since its launch, the game has received positive reviews from critics.

“Yakuza: Infinite Fortune” gameplay

In Yakuza: Infinite Fortune, players control Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu as they explore the Isezaki Ijincho district of Yokohama and the city of Honolulu, Hawaii with their friends. The famous Kamurocho area from the previous “Dragon Nest” game is also a featured location.

Gameplay follows a turn-based combat system, similar to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, where characters can choose different “jobs” or classes with unique abilities and playstyles. Kiryu’s special class, “Dragon of Dojima,” allows him to switch fighting styles and engage in real-time combat, reminiscent of fighting games from earlier games.

The Poundmates summoning system returns, featuring characters like Shun Akiyama and Kaoru Sayama from the series. The game includes familiar mini-games like karaoke, darts, and mahjong, as well as arcade games like Virtua Fighter 3tb, Sega Bass Fishing, and SpikeOut.

New mini-games in Infinite Wealth include Crazy Delivery, a food delivery game inspired by Crazy Taxi, Sujimon Battle, a Pokémon parody game, and Miss Match, a dating app for Haruhi. Additionally, there is an important side activity called Happy Resort Dondoko Island, where Kasuga manages her own resort island, involving resource gathering, crafting, and social interaction. Kiryu has his own side activity called Bucket List, which focuses on reuniting with old friends from previous Like a Dragon games.
