Legends of Runeterra Beginner’s Guide
Legends of Runeterra (LoR) is a fantastic free-to-play card game that beginners can have fun learning a few key facts. The game is designed to be easy for everyone to master, while also providing enough depth for competitive play.
Card Types: In LoR, there are two main card types – units and spells. Units are divided into champions and followers, with power and health statistics. Strength is the damage they deal, and health is the damage they can take. Spells come in three speeds: fast, slow, and burst, each with its own game rules.
Playing the game: At the beginning, players draw four cards, which can be exchanged. The key is managing mana – start at 1 and increase by 1 each round. Unused mana becomes spell mana. Players can have six active units and up to ten cards. If drawn more than ten times, it will be discarded.
Attack and Defense: The attacker, directed by the Golden Sword, starts each game. Players take turns playing cards, but only the attacker initiates the attack. Defenders can respond to attacks.

Mana in Runeterra: Both players start with 1 mana and gain 1 more mana each round. The extra mana is converted into spell mana, but cannot be used when the unit attacks. Base mana is capped at 10, while spell mana is capped at 3.
Win the game: Players start with 20 health and the goal is to return their opponent’s Nexus to zero. Another victory condition is to exhaust your opponent’s deck with no cards to draw. The match lasting 40 rounds resulted in a draw.
Getting Started: Newbies should play tutorials, AI, or unranked matches to master the basics. After the tutorial, pre-built decks are available. Unranked play is recommended until players understand the game and can build their own decks.
Expedition Playlists: For a greater competitive advantage, players can try ranked playlists. Expedition mode adds an extra layer, requiring players to draft their decks. Success earns rewards, and seven wins provide championship cards and more.
All in all, Legends of Runeterra is both accessible and strategically deep, making it an excellent choice for both casual and competitive card game enthusiasts.

Legends of Runeterra gameplay
Legends of Runeterra (LoR) is a digital card game played between two players, each starting with a Nexus with 20 health points. The goal is to reduce your opponent’s Nexus health to zero. Players start with four cards in hand and can exchange them for random cards. In each round, players draw a card and use mana (starting from zero, up to ten) to play the card.
Unused mana becomes mana for future turns. One unique aspect is the pacing of combat. “Attack tokens” alternate between players each round, indicating who can attack and who can defend. Some cards allow attacks even without tokens.
Cards are sorted by region, and a deck can contain cards from up to two regions. Champions, followers, and spells are the three main card types. Champions based on League of Legends characters can be leveled up to become more powerful. Unit cards have attack power and health statistics that determine damage and durability.
Spell cards have speeds—slow, fast, and burst—that determine when they can be used and how your opponent reacts. The Monuments of Power expansion introduces a new card type – Landmarks, which occupy board positions and can have a countdown effect after a specific turn. LoR’s strategic gameplay, diverse card types, and region-based deck building make it an engaging experience.
