Imitation game plot
The story revolves around mathematician Alan Turing and takes place in different time periods. In 1951, officers Nock and Starr investigated a burglary at Turing’s home. During the trial, Turing recalled his time at Bletchley Park during the Second World War.
In 1928, Turing was unhappy at boarding school and became friends with Christopher Morcom, who sparked his interest in cryptography. Turing developed romantic feelings for Christopher, but Christopher died of tuberculosis.
In 1939, when Britain entered the war, Turing joined the cryptography team at Bletchley Park, led by Commander Alastair Denniston. He longed to crack the Enigma machine, which the Nazis used to send coded messages. Turing had a challenging job and designed a machine named Christopher to decipher the Enigma message. There was initial resistance, but after writing to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, he gained support.
Turing developed a close friendship with the talented cryptographer Joan Clarke. They were engaged, but Turing’s homosexuality remained a secret. Through an epiphany, Turing modified Christopher to effectively decode the message. However, they must carefully choose which warnings to act on to avoid revealing Enigma’s compromise.
Tensions rise when Turing discovers that among them is a Soviet spy, John Cairncross. Turing confronts him, leading to a complicated situation involving MI6 and the threat to Clark. Turing eventually exposed Cairncross’s actions.

After the war, cryptographers were forced to destroy their work, and Turing faced legal trouble for being gay. He underwent chemical castration, which took a toll on his physical and mental health. Clark visited him during this difficult time and reminded him that his work had saved millions of lives.
Tragically, Turing committed suicide in 1954 after undergoing government-mandated hormonal treatment. In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II granted him a posthumous royal pardon in recognition of his contribution to the creation of modern computers.
