Tarla Dalal is a housewife-turned-chef known for her culinary skills and achievements. In addition to being a chef, she is a food writer, author and cooking show host. Her famous cookbook, The Joy of Vegetarian Cooking, was published in 1974 and marked the beginning of her successful career.

She has published over 100 books, selling over 10 million copies, and is renowned for her expertise in Indian vegetarian cooking and is often referred to as the Julia Child of Indian vegetarian cooking. Dalal created an impressive 17,000 recipes and 170 cookbooks during his lifetime.
Tragically, 77-year-old Tarla Dalal passed away peacefully in her sleep from a heart attack. Yet her legacy continues to inspire. She broke social norms and pursued her passion, becoming an icon for Indian women. With her husband’s support, she got out of the kitchen and gave cooking demonstrations in countries including the United States, Malaysia, Thailand, the Middle East and Africa.
