The brains behind it are directors Tetsuya Fukuhara and Yasuyuki Kaji, producer Koichi Haruta and artist Hideo Minba. The music, by Nobuo Uematsu and Tsutomu Narita, adds an extra layer of excitement. It’s part of the Granblue Fantasy series and lets you jump into the action on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Windows. Released on February 1, 2024, it is an action role-playing game that you can enjoy solo or with friends.

Is Granblue Fantasy Relink a Gacha?

No, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is not a gacha game. In this version, you don’t need to rely on the random draw system to unlock characters. Instead, you earn all characters by advancing the in-game story and completing missions. This is unlike the original game, which did involve a gacha mechanic.

Although there will be a massive character roster at launch, don’t worry about having to use microtransactions to access specific fighters. While it’s possible that future downloadable content (DLC) expansions could introduce more characters, especially considering the massive character pool in the original Granblue Fantasy, it’s highly unlikely that a gacha system will be implemented in Relink, as it’s entirely price version. Therefore, players can enjoy the game without the uncertainty and randomness associated with gacha elements.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink Gameplay

In Granblue Fantasy: Relink, you will adventure in Sky Kingdom, a world filled with floating islands. As the leader of an aerial team, you team up with a dragon named Venn and a mysterious girl named Lilia. You’ll sail with a cast of interesting characters, kings, and other unique people to Estalucia, a fabled island beyond the skies.

The gameplay is exciting, with a team of four characters fighting in real-time. You can choose from a group of aerialists, each with cool weapons and skills. Team up with your crew to complete chain attacks and chain bursts to make combat super cool. You can play solo or team up with three friends for 4-player co-op action to take down tough enemies and grab awesome loot.

Don’t like fast-paced combat? Don’t worry! There are assist modes for all skill levels, and you can even toggle Full Assist to automate actions in combat. Delve deeper into the lore of the Sky Realm through Lyria’s diary and explore the crew’s backstories through Fate Episodes. It’s an exciting journey, full of quests and epic battles!

Granblue Fantasy: Relink Development

Granblue Fantasy: Relink has had an interesting development journey. The game was originally named Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link in August 2016 and is the result of a collaboration between PlatinumGames and Cygames. As announced by Sony at the Tokyo Game Show in September 2016, the game, created by renowned artists including composers Nobuo Uematsu and Tsutomu Narita, and artist Hideo Minaba, will launch on PlayStation 4 in 2018.

Gameplay debuted at GranBlue Fes 2017, showcasing exciting features such as four-player cooperative multiplayer and a single-player mode with three AI characters. In December 2018, the game was officially renamed “Granblue Fantasy: Relink”. However, by February 2019, PlatinumGames exited, leaving Cygames to spearhead the rest of development.

The game’s release faced delays and was originally planned for release in 2018, later rescheduled to 2022 and 2023, before finally releasing on February 1, 2024. A playable demo gave fans a taste of the highly anticipated action RPG ahead of its full release on January 11, 2024.
