Introducing a Hybrid Pitch: What kind of pitch is this in cricket?

Indian Cricket is all set to launch its first hybrid pitch, a new innovation. The stadium was inaugurated at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala on Monday. The hybrid surface was unveiled at a grand ceremony attended by IPL chairman Arun Dhumal and other cricketing luminaries including former England player and SIS director of international cricket Paul Taylor Unveiling ceremony.

The new asphalt is a hybrid, a combination of natural grass and synthetic fibers. These asphalts contain only 5% synthetic fibers and only 95% natural turf. Synthetic fibers are infused into natural surfaces.

These courts offer better durability and playing stability. The courses maintain excellent playing conditions. It also reduces stress and workload for ground staff. The introduction of hybrid pitches in India is sure to leave a remarkable mark in the history of cricket

Firstly, Taylor is very much looking forward to getting more projects in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved and sanctioned hybrid pitches for T20 and ODI, which are planned to be used in country cricket in England.

Difference Between Mixed Asphalt and Natural Asphalt

The amount of decoration work after the game is relatively small, and the workload of the ground staff is also reduced accordingly. This pitch is proven to be three times more effective than regular pitching. As the game progresses further, it will be a challenge to reproduce the different behavioral patterns we see on natural surfaces. The characteristics would not fundamentally change, and no one would be able to control the pitch in the way Taylor said he needed to. On the other hand, he said one can control the properties of hybrids because they do not change intrinsically. The amount of moisture entering the asphalt can be controlled.
