The story centers on Ana Flores and her college pals searching for her missing sister Maria near Newt, Texas. Unexpected circumstances lead the group into the hands of the Slaughters, a family of crazy cannibals.
Starting a match requires taking on the role of a family member or a victim, giving players a choice between three family members and four victims, so each match ends up with seven participants. The plot unfolds on three different maps – the Slaughter family home, the gas station and the slaughterhouse. While the first two locations originate from the film, the latter adds a fresh dimension to the landscape.
Each map boasts day and night iterations, projecting changing lighting and an ever-changing atmosphere. One of the constants in every map is the basement, which is where all the victims and Leatherface start.
Once the victim is freed from confinement, their initial goal is to escape from the basement, paving the way for various exits. These options are implemented via four exits embedded in each map. In contrast, the families’ goals are focused on hunting down and removing victims. Once enough damage is done, the victim suddenly dies and disappears from the match.
In addition, the family is responsible for caring for the grandfather, who is motionless and subsisting on the blood of the victims and scattered blood bags. When the victim makes a commotion, Grandpa will wake up from his sleep and occasionally let out a high-pitched cry, exposing the victim’s activities to the entire family. A game ends once all victims manage to escape or die.
Progression is achieved through the accumulation of experience after each round, which can be used to enhance the individual character’s skill tree. Skill points in turn unlock additional skills and attributes, allowing players to customize each character’s abilities to match their unique playstyle.
