During the battle, Master Kohga will attack you with a truck with a battering ram on the front. Your goal is to avoid contact with the truck and find opportunities to attack him from behind or shoot arrows at him from a distance to break his attack. When he falls off the truck, seize the moment to do maximum damage. The first phase of the battle will last until about half of his health is depleted.
In the second stage, Master Kohga will use the truck again, but this time it will be protected by walls on both sides, and he will drive it towards you at crazy speeds. Lure him into crashing into the arena wall, creating an opportunity for you to board the truck and attack him.
Once you drain all of his health, he’ll escape in a plane, seemingly ending the fight. However, after a while, he will appear again in another area for the second phase.
In this stage, Master Kohga will fly a plane and attack you with fire. Shoot arrows at him to pull him off the plane, then attack him until he respawns on the plane. Continue this process until his health is completely depleted.
The third phase of the battle takes place in the Naval Arena. Master Kohga will try to attack you on the raft. Use the nearby raft to get to him while avoiding a frontal attack. You can shoot arrows at him, use long-range bombs on his raft, or climb onto his raft and shoot him down.
After overwhelming him, he will respawn in the distance and you must repeat this process until he loses all health points.
Finally, the fourth and final stage is a wrestling ring against Master Kohga who pilots a giant death robot called the Zonai Construct. Dodge his attacks and shoot arrows to take him out of the robot. Once he activates a shielding cube and starts firing massive laser beams from his hands, wait for him to throw three floating Morning Orbs at you.
Use the ball’s recall ability to point them backwards at Kohga, knocking him out of the robot and allowing you to deal significant damage. Repeat this process until he is defeated.
At each stage, remember to use your resources efficiently, such as arrows and food to maintain stamina. With skilled maneuvers and strategic attacks, you can emerge victorious in battles against Master Kohga and complete side adventures and main story missions in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Master Takaga makes a surprising return as a major boss character. Similar to his appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, he is the leader of the Yiga clan, presenting players with unique and difficult challenges.
To encounter the Kohga Master, players need to follow an elaborate quest chain involving the Yiga Clan. These missions are scattered across different areas of Hyrule. What’s different about this game is that most of the Yiga Clan and Master Kohga missions are unlocked in the Abyss, which was accessible early in Kingdom Tears.
The first encounter with Master Kohga occurs during the main quest “Dungeon Mystery”. After completing this mission, players will eventually reach the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Abyss, which is the first step towards the Yiga Clan side quest.
After entering the Great Abandoned Central Mine, players will face Master Takaga for the first time. The boss fight involves handling his slow-moving car as he attempts to ram the player. To defeat him, players must climb onto the vehicle and attack him directly.
After the initial encounter, players will need to find Master Kohga in three other locations in Hyrule:
- Abandoned Gerudo Mine (south of Abandoned Caracalla Mine)
- Abandoned Lanayru Mine (a separate section of the Abyss, accessible through the Lanayru Wetland Canyon)
- Abandoned Hebra Mine (accessible via Rito Village Gorge)
Each location presents its own unique challenges, and players must utilize their skills and resources effectively to achieve victory.
Defeating Master Kohga in all locations will reward players with powerful end-game weapons as well as valuable resources for crafting and upgrades. The battle against Master Kohga is a test of the player’s fighting abilities and adds an exciting element to the overall adventure of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

About Master Konga
Master Kohga is a recurring character and boss in the Legend of Zelda series. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, he is the leader of the Yiga clan, a group that opposes the Sheikah and constantly hunts Link. Although Master Takaga is an authoritative figure, he is often seen dozing off and being lazy. He is particularly fond of “powerful bananas” and is known for keeping secrets about the Sheikah.
In Breath of the Wild, Link encounters Master Ko’ga during the main quest “The Divine Beast Vah Naboris” outside the Yiga Clan’s hideout. Master Koga initially scolds Link for disturbing his nap spot, but upon seeing the Sheikah Slate in Link’s possession realizes that Link is the hero he has been looking for. He introduces himself and asks Link to prepare for battle.
The battle against Master Takaga is divided into three phases, each utilizing his control over magnetism and levitation. In the first phase, he throws a rock at Link, which can be countered by attacking him while he’s levitating. In the second phase, he summons two spinning rocks, and Link must hit one of them when it’s directly above his head to stun him. In the third phase, he summons a solid boulder that Link must use magnetism to knock back, stunning Master Ko’ga and allowing Link to finish the fight.

After the battle, Master Takaga used the last of his energy to perform a “secret technique”, but it backfired, causing him to fall into a pit. He declares that he will be remembered and the Yiga clan will continue to hunt Link throughout the Kingdom of Hyrule. As a reward for defeating him, Link receives the Thunder Helmet from a treasure chest.
Master Kohga has also appeared in other games such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, demonstrating his importance as a well-known character in the Legend of Zelda series.
About The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda is a highly regarded action-adventure game series produced by renowned Japanese game designers Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. Nintendo primarily develops and publishes the series, but some portable versions and re-releases have been entrusted to other studios such as Flagship, Vanpool, and Grezzo. Gameplay combines action-adventure elements with action RPG mechanics.
At the heart of the series are different versions of protagonist Link, a brave young man from the elven race of Hylia, and Princess Zelda, a magical princess who embodies the mortal reincarnation of the goddess Hylia. Together they embark on a mission to save the enchanted land of Hyrule from Ganon, an evil warlord who became the Demon King and is the main antagonist of the entire series. Ganon seeks to harness the Triforce, a sacred relic left behind by the three goddesses who shaped Hyrule, in order to reshape the world according to his dark desires. The Triforce has the power to fulfill any wish of the user, but if a person with an unbalanced heart attempts to touch it, it will split into three triangles and combine with three people whose hearts embody strength, courage and wisdom to the same extent.
While each game may feature different personalities and backgrounds for Link and Zelda, certain characteristics are generally consistent. Link is often depicted as left-handed and wearing green, while Zelda is associated with wisdom, light, and prophecy. While the conflict with Ganon forms the central plot of the series, some games explore other settings and antagonists, with Link traveling to different lands to complete their mission.
Since the original release of The Legend of Zelda in 1986, the series has grown to include 19 main titles spanning all of Nintendo’s major consoles, as well as numerous spin-offs. Additionally, an animated television series based on the game that aired in 1989, and Nintendo has commissioned individual manga adaptations in Japan since 1997. The Legend of Zelda is one of Nintendo’s most successful and respected franchises, with multiple games earning some of the distinction of being considered the greatest video games of all time.
Gameplay
The gameplay of The Legend of Zelda series is a blend of puzzles, action, adventure/combat elements, and exploration. These core components remain consistent throughout the series, but each new version introduces improvements and additional features to enhance the gaming experience. In later games, stealth gameplay was introduced, requiring players to avoid enemies while clearing levels. Some games also incorporate racing elements.
While the game can be completed with minimal exploration and side quests, players are often rewarded with useful items or enhanced abilities for solving puzzles and discovering hidden areas. Some items, such as bombs, boomerangs, keys, and weapons, appear frequently throughout the series, while other items are unique to specific games. The gameplay of The Legend of Zelda leans more towards hack-and-slash combat rather than the strategic, turn-based or real-time combat found in games like Final Fantasy. According to the game’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto, the series is primarily classified as a real-time adventure game, although it contains some role-playing elements.
Every major Zelda game contains three main areas: the overworld, which allows for multi-directional movement and freedom of action; areas for interacting with other characters, from caves to entire towns and cities, where players can earn special items, suggestions, and can complete side quests; as well as dungeons, underground maze areas filled with challenging enemies, bosses, and items. Each dungeon usually has key items necessary to solve puzzles and defeat bosses, helping players progress through the game. Maps and magical compasses help players explore dungeons and find necessary items.
A player’s health or hit points are represented by a line of red hearts, with each heart typically representing two hit points. Heart Containers can be found at the end of dungeons or dropped by dungeon bosses, and can increase the player’s maximum number of hearts. Heart fragments hidden throughout the game world are combined to form a complete heart container. Health can be replenished by collecting hearts from defeated enemies, consuming potions or food, or visiting the Great Fairy Fountain for full healing. Fairies found in specific locations can instantly resurrect players or store them in empty bottles for later use.
The series introduced several groundbreaking features. The original Legend of Zelda was the first console game to include a save feature, allowing players to pause and resume the game later. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time introduced an aiming system that simplifies 3D combat by allowing players to lock the camera on enemies or friendly NPCs. These innovations have become industry standards and have contributed to the enduring popularity and success of the Zelda series.
