Persona 3 Reloaded Game
Persona 3 Remake is a remake of the original Persona 3 with updated graphics and gameplay mechanics inspired by later Persona games. The protagonist is a high school student who gains the ability to summon Personas and joins the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad (SEES) to fight the Shadows in the Dark Hour.
The game introduces new features, such as expanding the scope of activities in Iwatodai Dormitory, including talking to dormitory residents, cooking, gardening, and watching movies. Players can enhance social statistics by performing these tasks, which helps interact with social links. The game also improves the map display, adds a fast travel option, and enhances the classroom questioning and exploration mechanics.
The game’s dungeon remains largely the same, but with more environmental changes and visuals. The battle system allows players to directly control teammates or let the CPU control their actions. The interface has been completely revamped, similar to Persona 5, with additional commands and skills, including an improved “baton” skill. Overall, Persona 3 Reloaded brings players a new experience of the original game with modern features and gameplay elements.
Persona 3 Reload Development
Atlus began development on a remake of Persona 3 in 2019, moving most of P-Studio’s staff from Persona 5 Royal to the remake. The game, called Persona 3 Reload, was considered important because of the influence the original Persona 3 had on the series. It presented unique challenges because it was developed on Unreal Engine 4, a different engine from Atlus’ proprietary engine used in previous games. The name “Reload” was chosen to convey its status as a definitive version, similar to Persona 5 Royal.
The game aims to faithfully recreate the experience of the original Persona 3, including new scenes and events, but will not include content from Persona 3 FES or Persona 3 Portable, such as the “Answer” ending or heroine. However, elements from FES that were added to the main story will be included.
The development team also plans to make revisions to the game’s controls and map design, specifically redesigning the main dungeon Hell to make it more immersive. They hope that players will be able to enjoy the same level of quality as in recent Persona games. The character models are based on Persona 3: Moonlight Dance, but other aspects have been created from scratch and adjusted. Additions for party members Koromaru and Shinjiro Aragaki are confirmed, as is the retention of the “Aeon” social link with Aigis from Persona 3 FES. As of August 2023, Persona 3 Reload has entered the final stages of development.
Persona 3 Reload release date
In July 2022, Atlus conducted a survey in Japan about remakes and re-releases of past games, including Persona 3. The survey showed strong interest in a Persona 3 remake. In April 2023, leaked footage indicated that a Persona 3 remake was in development. The leaked footage showed Yukari Takeba fighting a shadow. Later, Atlus renewed a web domain that was supposedly related to a Persona 3 remake. In early June 2023, Atlus renewed the web domain and accidentally uploaded a trailer for the remake, titled Persona 3 Reload, and the spin-off Persona 5 Tactica. Both games were officially announced later that week. Sega hosted a panel at Anime Expo 2023 to showcase the game’s English dub.
Between October 2023 and January 2024, Atlus West released short films about the development and legacy of Persona 3. On January 23, 2024, a live-action commercial for Persona 3 Reload starring actor Aidan Gallagher was released, which received negative reactions due to its tonal differences.
Persona 3 Reloaded was released on February 2, 2024 for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as Windows. It was available on Xbox Game Pass from the date of release. There are also special editions, including a Digital Deluxe Edition, a Digital Premium Edition, and a physical “Aigis Edition”. A collaboration with Cerevo resulted in a 1:1 replica of Evoker, and a collaboration with Koikeya produced limited edition chips and accessories based on Persona 3 Reloaded and Persona 5 Royal.
