The Google Pixel 4a is Google’s latest attempt to secure a piece of the mid-range market, following the success of last year’s Pixel 3a. But we all know the new Pixel has competition in its price range, so how does it stack up against a member of its own stable? The Google Pixel 4 may have stopped being sold on the US Google Store, but it’s still available at some stores like Best Buy — and at a great price.

Design, display and durability
Andy Boxall/Digital Trends
These phones may not be too far apart in terms of launch date but their design is huge. Oddly, the cheaper phone is initially easier on the eyes as the Pixel 4a adopts a 2020 design style with a punch-hole display and thin bezels. By contrast, the Pixel 4 has relatively large bezels above and below the screen, and while they’re necessary for radar-like beam movements, it’s still a design you can Describe as “classic” if you are nice and “old-fashioned” if you are not.
However, the feel of using the device still puts the Pixel 4 back in the lead. It is made of glass, while the Pixel 4a is made of plastic. This gives the Pixel 4a an edge in terms of durability, but it still feels cheap and, frankly, a bit boring. Be careful with the Pixel 4a near water as it doesn’t have the Pixel 4’s IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
The display is also similar, both devices have 1080p resolution. The Pixel 4a’s screen is larger but has a higher resolution to compensate, so both AMOLED displays look equally sharp. The Pixel 4 has a 90Hz refresh rate, and while it’s somewhat inconsistent, it’s still a point in favor of the more expensive phone.
The Pixel 4 may not be as stylish as many other high-end smartphones, but the Pixel 4a’s plastic build is definitely a big advantage over it. Pixel 4 wins here.

There’s a pretty big processor gap here. The Pixel 4 uses last year’s Snapdragon 855 chip, while the Pixel 4a uses the Snapdragon 730 chip. Performance on the Pixel 4a is good, but it won’t be able to handle demanding games and apps the same way as the Pixel 4 However, the Pixel 4a has its own strengths in other areas, with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. standard storage.
The biggest weakness of the Pixel 4 is definitely the battery. The 2800 mAh battery is very small in this day and age and does not hold enough capacity. In our review, the Pixel 4 barely lasted a full day, and that’s before the battery started to weaken over time. During a busy day, you may have to charge the battery several times. In contrast, the Pixel 4a has a long-lasting battery, and moderate use lasted up to two days on a single charge during our review period. Both have 18W fast charging, but only the Pixel 4 has wireless charging capabilities.
Battery life may be poor, but the faster processor and wireless charging only surpass the Pixel 4. But it’s close, and if you value battery life, feel free to give it to the Pixel 4a.

Camera

Google’s Pixel line has traditionally been home to some of the best smartphone cameras around, and this year is no exception. The camera package on the Pixel 4 includes a 12MP main lens and a 16MP telephoto lens, which is fantastic. Google’s software has proven to be a winner time and time again, and the Pixel 4 takes great photos in a variety of situations. The highlight of the show, however, is its low-light performance, and you’ll get incredible photos, even at night.
The Pixel 4a is a small step forward and doesn’t have a second lens, but it still takes some absolutely impressive photos. Camera quality is one of the main reasons you buy this phone, and the Pixel 4a consistently produces great photos that don’t require much editing before sharing.
The extra lens and versatility give the Pixel 4 the win, but it’s a much tighter fight than it seems for the price.

Android 10 runs best on Pixel 4 and 4a. It’s smooth, fast, and comes with many features not found on your regular Android device. However, this means that both devices run the same software, so there isn’t much difference between them here. It’s the same story when it comes to updates, and you can expect security updates and new Android versions on both devices at the same time, so expect Android 11 on both. There is almost no difference here so the result is a draw.

Despite its mid-range price, the Pixel 4a has access to a lot of special features. It has AI call view in the US, Now Playing feature to identify nearby songs, augmented reality mode in Google Maps, etc. However, Pixel 4 has access to them and more thanks to Motion Sense air gestures powered by the Project Soli chip. While certainly gimmicky, the ability to skip songs or snooze the alarm by waving over the phone and unlock the phone with secure face scanning pushes the Pixel 4 ahead of its siblings. Its cheaper this round.

Price and availability
The Google Pixel 4a is available now in the US for $349. The Pixel 4 has officially been discontinued in the US, but you can still find it on sale for as little as $550 at third parties like Best Buy. But you better be quick because the supply won’t last forever.

Overall winner: Google Pixel 4
With such a huge difference in price and hardware, only Google Pixel 4 can be better in this battle. The extra camera lens, faster hardware, and cool air gestures are the keys to its victory, and that’s why we can say that the Pixel 4 is the better of the two. products are provided.
But we already know that – a mid-range phone will always have a hard time beating a high-end phone. The real question here is how big the difference is between the two phones, and it’s not as big as you might imagine. The Pixel 4a is a good mid-range option, and while the design has its flaws, the battery life is good and the camera is excellent, which is really one of the reasons to buy the phone. If you’re looking for a phone with a great camera, the Pixel 4a is a worthy competitor to the Pixel 4, and if you want to save a few hundred dollars, buying the Pixel 4a instead of the Pixel 4 is definitely worth considering. .
