The defeated Jedi during the Old Republic
Near
The acolyte takes place in 132 BBY, 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. That film gives us much of the knowledge we have about the Sith during this era and is the foundation for the High Republic era in general. In The Phantom Menacethe Jedi Council makes some very specific comments about the Sith when presented with Qui-Gon’s testimony.
When the existence of Darth Maul is brought to the Council’s attention, Master Ki-Adi-Mundi says: “The Sith have been extinct for a millennium.” He claims this due to events that happened during the Old Republic era. The Old Republic, which took place before the High Republic, was characterized by its wars between Jedi and Sith. At the end of this era, the Sith were defeated and the Jedi incorrectly believed them to be extinct.

From Bane to Darth Plagueis, the Sith survived
Near
After the defeat of the Sith at the hands of the Jedi, there was only one survivor: Darth Bane. Darth Bane is one of the most important characters in all of history. Star Wars timeline, when a new order of Sith began that actually managed to survive. Darth Bane then founded the Baneite Sith, a tradition that involved only two Sith at a time.
Darth Bane’s “Rule of Two” is based on the fact that the Sith will always compete with each other, to their own detriment. Bane’s rule has the Sith train each other in their dark side abilities, before the apprentice finally rises, kills the master, and recruits a new apprentice. This direct line eventually led to Darth Plagueis, Darth Sidious, and Darth Vader during the era of the Empire, which only existed due to the accumulated power and conspiracy of the Sith.
Darth Bane
Darth Bane, one of the most important former Sith Lords, became convinced that the infighting among the Sith was the real reason they would inevitably lose, again and again, to the Jedi. He formulated the Rule of Two, a dogma that means there can only be two Sith at any time: one to wield power and the other to crave it.

2 We meet a Sith stronghold during the High Republic era
The Sith base of the Cerberon system
He Star Wars novel shadow fall by Alexander Freed may take place later Return of the Jedi, but it actually includes a hint about the history of the Sith in the galaxy. The book takes us to the Cerberon system, where it is strongly implied that the Sith engineered the economic downfall of the planet Troithe during the High Republic Era. In fact, the Sith had a stronghold on an asteroid in the Cerberon system, one in a decaying orbit around a black hole.
The Sith base of the Cerberon system is very similar to Darth Vader’s tower on Mustafar. It appears to be situated in a horrible vergence of the dark side, and can only be accessed through pain and suffering. Presumably, there are similar Sith strongholds scattered across the galaxy during the High Republic Era.

Star Wars Legends Sith are practically Canon
But the biggest clues about the Sith in the High Republic actually come from Star Wars Legends and great features of their knowledge transplanted to the canon. The legends provided a lot of information about the Sith under Darth Bane’s Rule of Two leading up to the prequel era, and much of that information has been gently canonized in various sources. Two main Sith Lords are present during this period, and could very easily be related The acolyte.
Dark Darth
The Bith Sith Lord Darth Tenebrous was born firmly in the High Republic era, albeit in the Legends timeline. He was incredibly powerful and accumulated a lot of wealth through the public facade of him as a famous spaceship designer. He was the teacher of Darth Plagueis, Palpatine’s teacher, and was killed in 67 BBY in Legendsmuch later The acolyteTimeline slot in canon. If the Sith Lord of this period needed to appear during this series, he would technically have to be Tenebrous to align with Legends.
Darth Plagueis
Another notable Sith Lord of the time is Darth Plagueis, one of the most well-known Sith. In LegendsPlagueis was born around the time of The acolyte, and would eventually kill his own master, Darth Tenebrous, after a lifetime of training. Plagueis then chose his own apprentice, Darth Sidious or Palpatine. Plagueis’ presence isn’t as likely as Tenebrous’s, but it’s still a possibility, especially considering how popular and iconic the character is, and how Plagueis is much more canonical than Tenebrous.
The history of the Sith, especially during the time of the High Republic, is largely a mystery in canon. Star Wars. But there are definitely little hints throughout the saga that can take the new story in the right direction. However, due to the specificity of some of this established data, it will be interesting to see how fluidly The acolyte deals with the complicated task of fitting into an already established part of the Star Wars timeline.
