Unlike its predecessor, this game focuses entirely on multiplayer action, omitting a single-player campaign. This shift marks a major change for the series, providing players with intense, large-scale battles across the world. A notable feature of “Battlefield 2042” is its support for cross-platform play. For the first time in the series, players from different platforms can participate in battles together.

The absence of a traditional single-player campaign is also cause for concern, as previous Battlefield games have typically included narrative-driven single-player experiences. Although Battlefield 2042’s release was highly anticipated, it fell short of Electronic Arts’ sales expectations. The developers continue to work on updates and patches to address these issues and improve the overall gaming experience for Battlefield 2042 fans.

Battlefield 2042 gameplay

Battlefield 2042 offers an intense multiplayer-focused gaming experience with futuristic elements from the near future. Similar to its predecessor, the game includes advanced weapons and gadgets, such as deployable turrets and drones, as well as controllable vehicles. Players can even request a vehicle to be airdropped to any location on the battlefield. The game introduces the “Plus” system, which allows players to customize their weapons on the fly.

Unlike previous games, “Battlefield 2042” cancels traditional professions, allowing players to freely control experts belonging to four classic Battlefield roles: Assault, Engineer, Medic and Reconnaissance. Each expert has unique skills and gadgets, adding to the variety of the game. For example, Emma “Sundance” Rozier is equipped with a wingsuit, while Maria Falk carries a healing pistol.

The game also recreates the dynamic and destructible environments from Battlefield 4, where extreme weather effects like tornadoes and sandstorms can impact gameplay. When the game launches, players will be able to explore seven maps, including Breakaway, which is billed as the largest map in the history of the Battlefield series.

Battlefield 2042 has three main game modes. Total War includes the familiar Conquest and Breakout modes. In Conquest, teams compete to capture a control point, while Breakthrough requires one team to capture a point defended by the other team. Both modes support AI-controlled players and offer up to 128 players on PlayStation 5, Windows and Xbox Series X/S, and 64 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
