These personalized colors can then be used on all custom interfaces within the garage by moving to the user section. This includes an image editor that enables players to create unique logos and designs for their Armored Core (AC).
Adjusting each different section will result in changes to the color settings. Additionally, color sets can be stored by selecting a component, using the shoulder buttons to position the user section outside of the predefined design, and pressing Triangle/Y to paste the color set into an empty space. Armored Core VI’s gameplay focuses primarily on mech-centric vehicle combat. Players take on the role of a skilled pilot, commanding a powerful mech called the Armored Core. The game places a heavy emphasis on customizability, allowing players to fine-tune and optimize their mechs using a range of different parts.
A key standout feature is the ability for players to equip their mechs with a wide variety of weapons. The mech has weapon slots – one on each arm and two on the back of the mech. This versatility gives players strategic flexibility when engaging in combat.
Continuing with its predecessor, the concept of the arena remains unchanged, implemented through the Combat Capability Assessment Programme. This mode enables players to test their driving skills by competing against other players. Successful completion of missions rewards in-game currency (called points). Credits earned are affected by achieved assignment goals and may be deducted for unachieved goals.
One significant difference from earlier entries was the abolition of the debt system. Unlike previous games where players faced monetary penalties for failing missions, Armored Core VI allows players to try missions over and over again without fear of losing money. This shift provides a more forgiving approach that encourages players to perfect their skills and strategies without financial repercussions.
Armored Core 6 plot
The story of Armored Core VI takes place in a future era where humanity has made interstellar progress. The story revolves around the planet Rubicon 3 at the edge of space, where a revolutionary substance called coral is discovered. Coral’s dual function as an energy and data transmission channel holds the promise of unprecedented technological advancements. The optimism surrounding the coral was short-lived, however, as an event known as the “Ibis Fire” erupted.
The Ibis Fire, triggered by Coral’s influence, resulted in a catastrophic phenomenon that engulfed not only Rubicon 3 but also neighboring star systems. The disaster left dangerous contaminants in its wake, dashing the coral’s initial hopes. This catastrophic event engulfed the Earth in flames, radically changing its landscape and environment.
Fifty years later, in a surprising turn, Coral’s traces reappear aboard Rubicon 3. Coral seemed to disappear after the disaster, but its reappearance sparked a frenzy of companies aiming to exploit its potential. Driven by ambition and regardless of the consequences for Earth’s inhabitants, these companies compete ruthlessly for control of this precious substance. Along with them, mercenaries flocked to the planet, intent on profiting from the ensuing conflict.
Against this chaotic backdrop, players assume the role of an augmented human known as “C4-621.” Enslaved under the command of the mysterious figure Walter, C4-621 is a skilled Armored Core pilot who performs mercenary missions in exchange for the promise of a new life. The story takes a turn when C4-621 illegally lands on Rubicon 3, assuming the identity of the deceased mercenary and adopting their call sign: “Crow.”
As a result, the story unfolds around interstellar upheaval, corporate greed, and personal redemption as players navigate the complexities of a world scarred by disaster and driven by ambition.
Armored Core 6 Development
In September 2016, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki hinted that a new game in the Armored Core series was in early development. The possibility of a new Armored Core game came into focus in January 2022 when details about a potential installment leaked via Focus Test. The official announcement for the game was made at The Game Awards 2022 in December.
Masaru Yamamura has taken over as director of Armored Core VI, his first role since serving as lead game designer on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Yamamura succeeds Hayao Miyazaki, who initially led the game’s development.
The game’s production was supervised by Yasunori Ogura, who served as producer. Although many members of the FromSoftware team were eager to create a new entry in the series, they were patiently waiting for the right time to effectively allocate resources to the project. This journey began in 2018, when the game entered the prototyping stage. Once the core game mechanics were firmly established, Yamamura took on the role of director.
Kota Hoshino serves as the chief composer of Armored Core VI. During the development of the game, Hoshino obtained specific keywords from Yamamura to shape the atmosphere of the game, aiming to convey a feeling of “loneliness and nostalgia.”
Using these keywords as a guide, Hoshino had creative freedom in crafting a piece that aligned with the tone of the game, and fine-tuned the track to match the overall flow of the game experience. Additionally, contributions from composers Takashi Onodera and Shoi Miyazawa enrich the game’s soundtrack.
