Arknights
Arknights is a tactical role-playing and tower defense mobile game developed by Hypergryph. The free-to-play game was first launched in China on May 1, 2019, and subsequently released globally on January 16, 2020, and in Taiwan on June 29, 2020.
Available on Android and iOS, Arknights uses a gacha game mechanic where players can obtain characters and items through a virtual gacha toy vending machine.
The game’s popularity has led to the announcement of a spin-off titled Arknights: Endgame for Microsoft Windows and mobile devices, coming in March 2022. In addition to the interactive game, Arknights is also expanding its universe with an anime television series produced by Yostar Pictures, which will air from October to December 2022.
Following the success of the first season, the second season, Arknights: Frostfall, premiered in October 2023. The Arknights series has attracted players around the world, combining strategic gameplay with fascinating storylines and expanding beyond the gaming field to various forms of entertainment.

How to play Arknights
Arknights is a tower defense game where players strategically place characters (called “Operators”) to prevent enemies from invading their base. Melee Operators block enemies, while ranged Operators deal damage or provide support.
The core of the game is similar to a puzzle, especially at higher difficulties, requiring tactical analysis and foresight rather than quick reactions. As players progress, they unlock new stages, operators, and resources, encountering different types of enemies and mechanics. Three-star rated playthroughs can be completed automatically based on recorded player actions.
Arknights contains base-building elements, allowing players to construct facilities and assign operators. This helps accumulate resources in a progressive gameplay manner. The game uses free-to-play mechanics such as daily rewards and Gacha elements, where players can acquire characters through virtual currency or optional real money purchases.
The challenge stems from limited resources, forcing players to navigate a complex economic system and prioritize recruiting and training the right operators. Players have created online tools to assist in this strategic effort.
Seasonal events such as “Emergency Contracts” introduced optional difficulty levels with exclusive rewards. In 2022, a roguelike mode called “Comprehensive Strategy” was added, expanding the game’s diverse gaming experience.

Arknights plot
In the game world, Terra is a place hit by natural disasters, facing a dystopian future filled with zoomorphic features and people displaying characteristics of animals or mythical races. The planet is battling a progressive and fatal disease called “Orestone Disease”, which is caused by the valuable mineral Orestone left behind by these disasters.
Interestingly, Primitivism also grants the infected the ability to use “Art”, a form of magic. Despite the magical powers of Ore Disease, it can lead to social ostracism and persecution due to its highly contagious nature. This has prompted some of the infected to form the “Reunion Movement”, an armed group that fights Terra’s despotic government.
Players will take on the role of “The Doctor”, a masked amnesiac who leads Rhodes Island – a pharmaceutical, medical and self-defense organization. As the Ore Disease spreads, Rhodes Island searches for a cure while fending off invasions from the Reunion Movement and the governments of various Terran countries.
The game follows the Doctor as he navigates this post-apocalyptic world, managing a team of operatives and facing the challenges presented by infectious diseases, magical abilities, and Terra’s political unrest.
