Alice decided to have a baby through artificial insemination because she wanted to have a family. But on the day of the operation, Jack came to visit her unexpectedly and they ended up sleeping together. Alice later found out that she was pregnant, but doctors found that she had stage 4 bile duct cancer with metastasis.

Jack, now a researcher, tried to find a cure while Alice went through chemotherapy. However, Jack learned that he had Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and an aneurysm. Alice lost hope, Jack stopped his research, and they spent their last days together. Alice died in the hospital, and Jack died of a heart attack on a park bench.

The series ends with their daughter Celia visiting their graves. She discovers Jack’s memories of Alice and decides to shred his research papers. Throughout the series, Alice regrets not appreciating her time with Jack, and Jack’s life’s work ultimately loses meaning.

Alice and Jack’s story

Alice & Jack, which premiered on Channel 4 on Valentine’s Day, adds a new twist to the romantic comedy genre, with plenty of love and humour, but also plenty of sadness and obsession, as well as some deadpan humour.

Alice (Andrea Riseborough) and Jack (Domhnall Gleeson) meet online and have an awkward first date that leads to an unbalanced relationship. Alice is portrayed as troubled and angry, bearing traces of past trauma, while Jack displays loyalty despite warnings from his friend Paul.

What happened to Alice and Jack?

In 2007, Alice Long and Jack Kane met on a dating app and subsequently went on a date at a bar. Despite their differences, they shared a common connection. Jack, a biomedical researcher, was intrigued by Alice’s work in finance and her lavish lifestyle.

After a one-night stand, Alice asks Jack not to contact her again, but they eventually reconnect after Jack finds a cure for Hashimoto’s disease. As Alice struggles to control her emotions, Jack begins a new relationship with Lynn, and their relationship becomes complicated, eventually leading to marriage and a child.

Despite their close relationship, Alice’s avoidant behavior and painful past cause a strain on their relationship. Jack’s consistent kindness brings Alice back into his life from time to time, but their relationship is fraught with challenges. Eventually, Alice decides to marry Danny, but her feelings for Jack resurface at a pre-wedding dinner, causing her to break off the engagement and disappear again.

Years later, Alice asks Jack to reconcile with her and offers him a lucrative investment opportunity. Their complicated relationship continues as Alice moves in and out of Jack’s life from time to time, leaving a lasting impact on him and his daughter Celia, who later tries to understand her mother’s complicated feelings for Jack.
