UPGRADE: Captain America’s Shield
Cap’s Shield Will Almost Certainly Be Upgraded
Close
One of the first and most prominent powerful metal objects introduced to the MCU was Captain America’s shield, first given to Steve Rogers during World War II after he was enhanced by the super soldier serum. Since then, the shield has been a major part of Captain America’s MCU story, becoming synonymous with the hero himself as a symbol of justice and heroism. The introduction of adamantium in Captain America: Brave New World makes it seem incredibly likely that Cap’s shield will get an upgrade, much as in the comics.
The existing vibranium shield is already incredibly powerful, but in the comics, its adamantium upgrade improves its strength. Though adamantium is seen as less versatile, it is considered the stronger of the two super-metals, and Cap’s proto-adamantium shield is one of the most resilient weapons in the Marvel universe. With Brave New World exploring the introduction of adamantium to the MCU, it seems all but certain that Cap will get an improved shield in the franchise’s future.

NEW: Wolverine
The MCU Has Set Up An MCU Origin For Wolverine
Close
Though many variants of Wolverine have already appeared in the MCU as part of Deadpool & Wolverine, the introduction of adamantium to the franchise subtly sets up a new version of the character. Adamantium is most famous for being the metal grafted onto Wolverine’s skeleton, enhancing his durability and his claws to make him near-indestructible. Though Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine could potentially return in the MCU’s future, the discovery of adamantium sets up an origin story for the franchise’s own original version of the iconic X-Man.
With the metal getting its official narrative introduction in the MCU, exploring the Weapon X program and Wolverine’s origin story would be a logical progression for adamantium in the franchise. Though Jackman’s Wolverine is beloved, he didn’t originate in the MCU proper, opening the door for the potential debut of the franchise’s native version of the hero. It may not seem the most likely, but there’s actually a good chance that adamantium’s introduction could lead to a brand-new Wolverine in the MCU.

UPGRADE: Bucky’s Armor
Bucky’s Equipment Could Get An Adamantium Upgrade
Close
Though Bucky Barnes may well be one of the MCU’s longest-serving active heroes, his story in the franchise is far from over. Bucky’s redemption arc has been one of the MCU’s most complex and engaging narratives, seeing him going from a well-meaning sidekick to an unwitting villain and then a fully-fledged hero in his own right. However, many of Bucky Barnes’ powers are missing from the MCU, and adamantium’s introduction sets up a potential upgrade for the character.
In the comics, Bucky enjoyed a spell as Steve Rogers’ successor to the mantle of Captain America, and donned a set of adamantium-infused armor during that time. Though he is unlikely to become the MCU’s Captain America, the appearance of adamantium could well see Bucky get an adamantium upgrade as in the comics, with a suit of armor and a new arm made of the powerful metal. Exact comic-accuracy may not be plausible, but one of the MCU’s longest-standing heroes getting an adamantium upgrade seems incredibly likely.

NEW: Daken
Adamantium Plays A Role In The Story Of Wolverine’s Son
Close
Though Daken might not be one of the best-known X-Men characters, he is an important member of the mutant community in the comics. Daken’s connections to Wolverine make his MCU future possible, with the introduction of adamantium adding another element to that potential live-action debut. In the comics, Daken is Wolverine’s son, and he possesses similar powers to his father, with bone claws and a regenerative healing factor, among other abilities.
Much like his father, adamantium plays a part in Daken’s story. Throughout his time in the comics, Daken had his own claws enhanced in various ways, using adamantium differently from Wolverine. To offset the negative effects of the Muramasa metal his claws were once coated with, Daken had adamantium sheaths built into his body. Though adamantium may not be as central to Daken’s story as it is his father’s, its introduction to the MCU makes it possible that he will be introduced in the franchise’s future.

UPGRADE: Ultron
Ultron Already Needs A New Body In The MCU
Close
As it has finally been confirmed that Ultron will return to the MCU, the franchise has perfectly set up a comic-accurate upgrade for the villain. First introduced in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, the villain never truly achieved his comic-accurate potential as an Avengers-level threat. Ultron’s adaptability has seen him undergo many changes and upgrades in the comics, and now one of his most significant has been made possible in the MCU.
In the comics, Ultron’s adamantium body is incredibly resilient and makes him even more difficult to harm or destroy. With the metal being introduced in Captain America: Brave New World, its timing ahead of Ultron’s own return makes the villain’s upgrade seem all the more likely. As Ultron needs a new body after being destroyed in his previous appearance, the villain’s comic-accurate upgrade seems set to happen within the franchise.

NEW: David North
Agent Zero Often Uses Adamantium Weapons
Adamantium has been used in many ways in the stories of Marvel Comics, and it features heavily in the arsenal of one particular character. David North has used multiple codenames, including Maverick and Agent Zero, and has featured in multiple X-Men stories. In the comics, he possesses an array of mutant abilities, as well as several weapons made from or enhanced by adamantium. Equipped with blades and bullets made of the metal and using his varied abilities, North is commonly a teammate and ally of Wolverine.
Though it might not play the most obvious part in North’s comic book story, adamantium appearing in the franchise makes his MCU debut possible. His use of the metal to assist and occasionally oppose Wolverine as part of the Weapon X team makes him an interesting and versatile character, and one who could play a part in Logan’s future appearances in the MCU. Adamantium has been used repeatedly throughout North’s comic book tenure, and could also serve as his ticket into the MCU.
2
UPGRADE: Bullseye
Bullseye’s Adamantium Upgrade Could Make For A Perfect MCU Return
Close
One existing MCU character whose adamantium upgrade has already been directly set up is Bullseye, who made his debut in season 3 of Daredevil. A regular adversary of the Man Without Fear, Bullseye’s expert marksmanship abilities make him a deadly foe. However, in the comics, he also had adamantium fused to parts of his skeleton after falling from a building, giving him enhanced durability and strength.
Considering that Daredevil season 3 ended with Bullseye undergoing experimental treatment to repair an injury to his spine, the upcoming introduction of adamantium makes his upgrade seem more than plausible. Furthermore, Bullseye is set to appear in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again, and the show will need to address his injuries in some way. As such, it seems entirely possible that Bullseye might be one of the first existing MCU characters to receive an adamantium upgrade.

NEW: Jocasta
Ultron’s Wife Might Finally Make Her MCU Debut
Close
Jocasta is not the best-known Marvel character, but her various connections to existing MCU characters and the impending introduction of adamantium make her live-action debut seem possible in the near future. In the comics, Jocasta is created by Ultron to be his wife, though she resists and later defects to join the Avengers. Not unlike Ultron, Jocasta is a machine made of metal, making her potential adamantium body a possibility for the MCU’s future.
Jocasta was even teased in the MCU back in 2015, with her personality stored among Tony Stark’s collected AI programs. Though there has been no real indication of her impending arrival, Ultron’s own return paves the way for Jocasta’s own debut, and adamantium’s appearance could lend another element to the character. In other words, Jocasta is yet another character whose appearance could be set up by the appearance of adamantium in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
