Based on the novel, Mickey7, by Edward Ashton, Mickey 17 is a science-fiction dark comedy set in the future. Wanting to leave Earth, a man named Mickey volunteers to be an expendable — a job that involves repeatedly getting himself killed in the name of research — knowing that his body and consciousness will be regenerated each time he dies. Trouble quickly brews when a mistake results in two versions of Mickey being alive at the same time.

While the concept surely has a lot of potential, what has people most excited about Mickey 17 is the cast and crew that put it together. The film is both written and directed by Bong Joon-Ho, the Oscar-winning writer and director of the 2019 Best Picture winner, Parasite. While his name alone would be enough to attract a large audience, Mickey 17 also features a star-studded cast. Robert Pattinson stars as Mickey, with Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Steven Yeun, and Mark Ruffalo also playing supporting roles. Mickey 17 releases in theaters on April 18, 2025.
