5 Best Sandra Bullock Movies To Watch On Netflix

Sandra Bullock

is one of the most recognizable actors working today, having been present in Hollywood for over three decades now. Bullock was born in Arlington, Virginia, and lived in Germany for part of her childhood. She began acting in high school theater productions before studying drama while at East Carolina University. With supporting roles in films like Love Potion No. 9 and Demolition Man in the early 1990s, Bullock rose to greater fame in 1994 after starring in the “too real” action movie Speed with Keanu Reeves.

Throughout her career, Bullock has portrayed a variety of different characters and has won numerous awards for her performances, including an Academy Award for the now controversial movie The Blind Side. However, despite being one of the most bankable actors in Hollywood, some of Sandra Bullock’s performances are still underrated. Luckily, Netflix currently has some great movies to stream that cover both her earlier roles and some new highly rated ones, giving a great overview of her career highlights.

While many of Sandra Bullock’s best-known movies are the romantic comedies that she made her name with in the 1990s and 2000s, Netflix’s 2018 horror movie, Bird Box, became a surprise hit for the star. While Bullock has been in other thrillers throughout her career, Bird Box still felt like a completely new and exciting role to see her in. Bullock took on the role of Malorie Hayes, a woman who attempts to lead her children to safety in a post-apocalyptic world in which entities cause anyone who sees them to take their own life.

What makes the horror movie so unique is that Bullock spends the majority of the film blindfolded, so that her character is not tempted to look at the entities. Due to Bullock’s unique role and the suspenseful atmosphere, Bird Box became Netflix’s most-watched movie at the time of its release. Additionally, despite criticisms of some aspects of the movie, critics praised Bullock’s performance, making it an impressive addition to her filmography.

Though the technology of The Net may seem outdated to viewers today, the movie itself is still incredibly entertaining. Bullock stars as Angela Bennett, a systems analyst who works completely remotely and has little contact with anyone in the outside world. However, her life changes overnight when a colleague sends her a floppy disk that exposes a secret backdoor in a common cybersecurity system that allows the user access to any information in the organization’s computer system.

The value of this information forces Angela to go on the run after all her information is removed from the internet, leading Bullock’s character to fight for her life and identity. While The Net does demonstrate aspects of the fears that permeated some early internet users, it is undeniably fun to watch Angela figure out how to constantly outsmart her enemies. The techno-thriller may not be very realistic, but it is fast-paced and exciting.

Considering that Two Weeks Notice managed to cast two of the biggest names in rom-coms of the early 2000s, it is surprising that it never became more popular, but, luckily, it is available to stream on Netflix right now. Two Weeks Notice stars Hugh Grant as a wealthy and uncaring real estate developer and Sandra Bullock as an overworked lawyer who decides to work for him in exchange for him saving her childhood community center. As implied by the title, Bullock’s character, Lucy, decides to leave her job with George, but the two underestimate how close they have grown.

Despite the mediocre 43% critics approval score on Rotten Tomatoes, most of the critics’ reviews actually commented on how well Bullock and Grant worked together. This is unsurprising since both stars are known for being quite charismatic in their roles. Additionally, some viewers praised the film’s dialogue for being funnier than expected. In short, while Two Weeks Notice remains underappreciated in Bullock’s filmography, it is a great option for fans of romantic comedies.

Bullock’s 2022 movie, The Lost City, is arguably one of the funniest movies of her career. Bullock stars as Loretta Sage, a romance novelist and former archaeologist, alongside Channing Tatum as her series’ cover model, Alan, and Daniel Radcliffe as the billionaire villain, Abigail Fairfax. When one of her books has connections to a real-life lost treasure, Fairfax decides to kidnap Loretta in the hopes that she will help him in his treasure hunt, but, fortunately, Alan tries to come to her rescue.

However, Alan is not the hero that he portrays in Loretta’s books and, in reality, has no survival or rescue skills. Bullock and Tatum are great together comedically, and they pull off just enough romantic connection to make it believable but not over the top. On top of their great performances, the action-adventure side of the movie keeps the plot moving quickly, and Radcliffe’s eccentric villain is just ridiculous enough to work perfectly.

The beloved 2000 movie Miss Congeniality is currently trending on Netflix ahead of its 25th anniversary, and it remains one of Bullock’s best performances to date. At the time of its release, Miss Congeniality was a box-office success and earned $212.7 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo). Bullock was even nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress – Musical or Comedy for her performance in the film.

Bullock stars as Gracie Hart, a tough, tomboy FBI agent who begrudgingly goes undercover as Miss New Jersey in the Miss United States pageant when the FBI learns that a terrorist may attempt to bomb the event. Throughout the years since its release, Miss Congeniality has remained one of the most well-known comedies of the era because of its engaging plot and strong female characters. While Sandra Bullock has been in many great films, Miss Congeniality is certainly among her best, and will likely remain loved as it becomes available to new streaming audiences.
