Netflix’s Kinda Pregnant is a rom-com with a unique premise, but there are still a handful of comparable movies for audiences to watch next. The 2024 film, which stars Amy Schumer, Will Forte, Jillian Bell, Brianne Howey, and more, sees a desperate 40-something-year-old pretending to be pregnant. All she (Lainy) had ever wanted was to be a mom, but her best friend getting pregnant first made her feel as if the time had come and gone. Of course, in classic rom-com fashion, Lainy’s big deception blows up in her face in the most outrageous way possible. It’s a specific brand of comedy that is unique to the genre.

While romantic comedy movies based on deceptions are a dime a dozen, other factors in Kinda Pregnant are a bit more challenging to find in other movies. Kinda Pregnant revolves significantly around pregnancy and motherhood, and this detail shortens the list of comparable films. Additionally, Schumer’s Netflix rom-com uses its hilarious premise as a foundation for a deeper meaning and theme, which is something that movies within the genre can’t always pull off. Still, those who love Kinda Pregnant have some options that range from checking some to most of the essential boxes.

When it comes to pregnancy-based rom-coms, 2007’s Knocked Up is sure to be one of the first to come to mind. The movie stars Katherine Heigl as the motivated and ambitious Alison Scott, who winds up pregnant after a one-night stand with the man-child slacker Ben Stone (Seth Rogen). Alison decides to proceed with the pregnancy, but her immense differences from Ben make the whole arrangement far more complicated.
The main commonality between Kinda Pregnant and Knocked Up is, of course, the theme of pregnancy and parenthood. Heigl’s Alison doesn’t pretend to be pregnant like Schumer’s Lainy, and Knocked Up lacks the big deception trope of Kinda Pregnant. Still, those looking for another pregnancy-themed rom-com are sure to be satisfied.

I Feel Pretty stars Amy Schumer as Renee Barrett, an insecure woman who wakes up after a blow to the head, believing she is a gorgeous supermodel. Her newfound confidence opens several professional and personal doors, but the hook of I Feel Pretty is that Renee’s appearance never changes. She believes that she is beautiful, and the world responds in turn.
What makes I Feel Pretty comparable is the way it takes an essential message about womanhood and delivers it within a romantic comedy format.
Although I Feel Pretty lacks the pregnancy angle the other movies on this list fulfill, it is still an excellent follow-up to Kinda Pregnant. Schumer is obviously a common denominator, but what makes I Feel Pretty comparable is the way it takes an essential message about womanhood and delivers it within a romantic comedy format. There’s plenty to laugh at, but the deeper theme leaves audiences with something meaningful to ponder.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting (2012) follows several characters as they experience the joys of pregnancy and birth. The film jumps between celebrity couples, single mothers, typical working parents, and others, demonstrating how this single experience can look different (but also the same) from person to person. Of course, the foundation of What to Expect When You’re Expecting is comedy and a no-holds-barred look at the chaos of new life.

Both Kinda Pregnant and What to Expect When You’re Expecting aim to pull the curtain back on pregnancy. The overarching lesson of these films is that the glowing, beautiful experience so often advertised just isn’t realistic. These movies also feature an excellent cast, with What to Expect claiming names like Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Jennifer Lopez, Anna Kendrick, Chris Rock, Dennis Quaid, and more.

2024’s Babes stars Ilana Glazer as Eden, who leans on her best friend and experienced mother, Dawn (Michelle Buteau), when she realizes she is pregnant following a one-night stand. Babes is comedy through and through, with endless laughs surrounding the experiences of women in each uncomfortable stage of pregnancy and motherhood.
Babes is available watch on Hulu.
The central friendship of Babes significantly reflects that of Kinda Pregnant. In both movies, one friend is single and eager to be a mother, while the other is already married and dealing with the struggles of parenthood. Of course, the big difference here is that Eden is actually pregnant in Babes, while Schumer’s Lainy is faking in Kinda Pregnant. Still, those who enjoy the female comradery of one film will find something similar in the other.

The premise of Labor Pains and Kinda Pregnant is nearly identical. Both movies involve a woman pretending to be pregnant and realizing that people value a woman who is expecting more. Although their reasons for doing so are different, the overarching “deception” trope is the same. While Labor Pains lacks the deeper meaning of Kinda Pregnant, these movies most certainly check many of the same boxes.
