In real life, Gibson is a convicted scammer and pseudoscience advocate who created The Whole Pantry mobile app.

Gibson claimed throughout her time as a guru that she had been diagnosed with various cancer pathologies and was able to manage them with her plan of diet, exercise, and natural remedies. The film, based on the theatrical musical of the same name, tells the story of 17-year-old Evan Hansen who lives with mental health issues and whose therapist recommends he writes letters to himself detailing why each day should be a good day. What results is Evan writing a note asking if anyone would miss him if he disappeared. When another student steals the note and then dies by suicide, that student’s parents believe the note was a suicide letter and that Evan was his friend.

Dever sang in the songs “Requiem,” “You Will Be Found,” and “Only Us.”

Ben Platt stars as Evan Hansen, while Kaitlyn Dever stars as Zoe Murphy, the sister of the young man who died by suicide. Evan and Zoe begin a romantic relationship later, although that is disrupted when she and her family learn the truth. The movie is a musical, and most of the cast performed the songs. Kaitlyn Dever was part of the cast of the 2013 independent coming-of-age drama The Spectacular Now. In this film, Miles Teller stars as Sutter Keely, a charismatic young man who hides the fact that his father is an alcoholic who left his family years before. Shailene Woodley is Aimee Finecky, a young woman who offers to help tutor him after she finds him drunk and passed out in her front yard after his girlfriend (Brie Larson) broke up with him (which he pretends was the biggest hardship in his life).

As for Kaitlyn Dever, she had a smaller role in the film as Krystal, Aimee’s sarcastic and bossy friend. She is not a nice person to Aimee and is her only friend, but she seems to at least care about her when she approaches Sutter with a warning about how he treats her. It was a fun early role that allowed fans to get to know the actress better. The Spectacular Now won the Special Jury Award for Acting for Teller and Woodley, and it received two Independent Spirit Award nominations.

While Dever became known for her supporting parts, this more recent starring role deserves some spotlight. Released in 2022, Rosaline is a period comedy starring Dever as Rosaline, a character in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” who gets the short end of the stick when her secret romance with Romeo is ruined after he becomes infatuated with her cousin, Juliet. Although the premise is a slight twist on a familiar story, Dever’s performance as the witty and unlucky Rosaline makes this film hard not to love. Critics praised the film, awarding it a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score, and it was one of the most-watched streaming films the week of its release.

Kaitlyn Dever starred in the sci-fi horror film No One Will Save You in 2023. There are only a few lines of spoken dialogue throughout the film’s running time, with the rest playing out with no one talking.

Aside from the fact that Dever has been heavily praised for her performance in this film, it also stands out because it is one of her first forays into sci-fi. In more recent years, Kaitlyn Dever has been part of projects with heavy and important stories, as well as star-studded casts. A great example of this is Netflix’s miniseries Unbelievable. The show follows a young woman, played by Dever, who reports being raped. However, she takes the claim back after the cops treat her as if she’s lying, leading two female detectives (Toni Collette and Merritt Weaver) to investigate the real story.

The miniseries was based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning article called An Unbearable Story of Rape from 2015 and the related book, A False Report. With such relevant subject matter and a true story at its base, Unbelievable quickly became a significant project for Netflix. Kaitlyn Dever was essentially the face of the series’ success. Dever was nominated for a Critic’s Choice Award and a Golden Globe for the role. The series also received four Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

Critics rated the movie at 96% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, and it won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Film – Wide Release, while Dever also earned a BAFTA Rising Star nomination.

Though Kaitlyn Dever is one of many amazing actors featured in the Detroit cast, this is one movie that audiences shouldn’t miss. Detroit is a period crime drama following civil unrest in the city of Detroit in 1967 that led to crimes committed by police officers and several black men being killed and beaten as a result. The film is based on the real-life Algiers Motel Incident and the 12th Street Riot and starred John Boyega, Will Poulter, Anthony Mackie, John Krasinski, and more.

With Kathryn Bigelow at the helm, this is a powerful and disturbing film that brings audiences into a part of history that is somewhat similar to the present in some ways. While Dever isn’t a significant part of this film, her role is not unimportant and is definitely worth watching. Karen is one of the young women taken into a room by the police to subject them to mock executions by officers, who then begin to kill anyone who does not comply.

A Kaitlyn Dever film that earned incredible praise is 2013’s Short Term 12. The film follows a counselor at a school for at-risk youths who begins to crack under the pressure of past and present traumas. Dever plays Jayden, a troubled young woman who self-harms, though more trauma lurks underneath her facade. Brie Larson leads the cast as the young supervisor of the Short Term 12.

Dever’s performance in Short Term 12 is a time capsule because it shows that, even from a very young age (she was 17), Kaitlyn Dever had the ability to play difficult and important roles. This film was just the start of an illustrious career full of comedy but also significant topics that teach audiences as much as they entertain them. While Larson and Lakeith Stanfield received most of the awards recognition, Dever carried her own in the film and proved she was ready for big things in her future.
