10 Star Wars Characters Who Deserve Their Own Spinoff Movie Or TV Show

These 10 Star Wars characters have already proven to be brilliant in Star Wars movies and TV shows, and now, they deserve their very own spin-off. The Skywalker family tree has long dominated Star Wars, and although the Skywalkers are undeniably some of Star Wars’ best characters, they are far from the only characters who deserve center stage. In fact, many of the most compelling characters in Star Wars not only aren’t Skywalkers but also aren’t Jedi.

Several of Star Wars’ best TV shows have begun steering in that direction—away from the Skywalkers and the Jedi—very successfully. Shows like The Mandalorian and Andor have shown that this can be met with plenty of enthusiasm from Star Wars audiences. In light of that, these 10 Star Wars characters, many of whom are neither Skywalkers nor Jedi, deserve their own spin-off shows or movies.

Darth Maul

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Close

Darth Maul has only become more interesting as the Star Wars timeline has expanded. Initially, he seemed to have died in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace when Obi-Wan Kenobi cut him in half. However, Star Wars: The Clone Wars revealed that Maul had miraculously survived after all. He then went on to be a troublesome villain throughout The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels and even had a cameo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Despite these repeated appearances, Darth Maul deserves his own spin-off show or movie. Solo even hinted that this could be coming, as it positioned Maul as the head of a crime syndicate during the Dark Times. This is still a story that could be explored, even given that Rebels confirmed when and how he died. Maul began as a terrifying, fascinating brand-new Sith on the scene, and it would be brilliant to see him in a leading role in the future.

Mace Windu

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Close

Mace Windu is a truly underrated Jedi in Star Wars. Mace Windu appeared throughout the Star Wars prequel trilogy and The Clone Wars, and he is arguably best known for his final confrontation with Palpatine, during which he attempted to assassinate him. Inadvertently, this led to Anakin Skywalker falling to the dark side of the Force and being christened Darth Vader because, in the end, Anakin chose Palpatine over Mace Windu/the Jedi.

While Mace’s appearances throughout the prequel movies and The Clone Wars proved what a wise Jedi and skilled fighter he was, though, Mace Windu is deserving of additional screen time. In particular, a show exploring Mace Windu’s earlier days in the Jedi Order, perhaps pre-dating The Phantom Menace, would be thrilling. This could even reveal more about the ways in which Mace Windu, much more than any other Jedi, toed the line of the dark side.

Darth Bane

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Close

Darth Bane is pivotal in Star Wars, as he is the creator of the Sith Rule of Two, which established that there would be one Sith master and one Sith apprentice. Bane created this rule to protect the future of the Sith, as he recognized that in-fighting was tearing the Sith apart and could ultimately lead to their own extinction. Despite how important Darth Bane is, he has only had one on-screen appearance in Star Wars movies and TV shows, in The Clone Wars.

In that show, Darth Bane appeared as a vision to Master Yoda. Notably, only Jedi can become Force ghosts, Sith cannot, so this wasn’t even a ‘real’ appearance by Darth Bane. Given his legacy, Bane is certainly deserving of a more substantial on-screen arc, ideally one that reveals more about his creation of the Sith Rule of Two. Star Wars has also rarely focused on Sith stories (The Acolyte arguably failed to truly make good on that promise), so such a story is especially needed.

7

Bo-Katan Kryze

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Close

Bo-Katan Kryze has become iconic in Star Wars. After debuting in The Clone Wars, Bo-Katan went on to play a role in Rebels and in The Mandalorian, and she has only become more crucial as time has gone on. In The Clone Wars, Bo-Katan seemed more or less like a villain, working with Death Watch and acting threateningly towards Ahsoka Tano (not to mention smacking her on the rear, which is to date one of the most bizarre moments in all of Star Wars).

Now, though, Bo-Katan is primed to be the new ruler of Mandalore. The Mandalorian season 3 ending set Bo-Katan up to hold this role in Star Wars moving forward, which could certainly be explored in a potential upcoming show or movie. Although many are expecting to see Bo-Katan return in The Mandalorian and Grogu, and she very likely will be in that movie, she should also lead her own show or movie. Ideally, this would also finally involve a plot honoring Bo-Katan’s sister, Satine, who died in The Clone Wars.

6

Qui-Gon Jinn

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Close

Qui-Gon Jinn has only appeared in The Phantom Menace and very briefly in The Clone Wars and Obi-Wan Kenobi (as a Force ghost), yet he is absolutely crucial in Star Wars. In addition to finding the Chosen One and bringing him to the Jedi Order (although that wasn’t exactly a great choice), Qui-Gon was the very reason Master Yoda and, ultimately, Obi-Wan Kenobi knew how to become Force ghosts. As they went on to teach Luke, and Luke taught Leia, Qui-Gon is the very reason these Force ghosts remain in Star Wars.

Qui-Gon is also simply a fascinating Jedi in his own right. The Phantom Menace confirmed that he did not often follow the rules, and he was more than willing to strike out on his own—even when it was his very own Padawan, Obi-Wan, who was pleading with him to not defy the Jedi Council again. A Qui-Gon show or movie could explore Qui-Gon’s dynamic with Obi-Wan in greater detail or even reveal more about his relationship with Count Dooku, his former Jedi Master who had a clear affection for him.

Qimir

First Appeared In: The Acolyte

Close

It’s no secret that The Acolyte proved to be very divisive and controversial in the Star Wars fanbase, which ultimately ended with The Acolyte’s cancelation. Despite how extensive the backlash to The Acolyte was, though, Manny Jacinto’s Acolyte character, Qimir/the Stranger, was largely considered one of the bright spots. In light of Qimir’s popularity, and the lingering feelings of disappointment for those who liked The Acolyte, a Qimir show would be a genius next step for Star Wars to take.

In light of Qimir’s popularity, and the lingering feelings of disappointment for those who liked The Acolyte, a Qimir show would be a genius next step for Star Wars to take.

There’s plenty more to explore when it comes to Qimir’s story. Season 1 of The Acolyte only minimally explored what had happened between Qimir and his former Jedi Master, Vernestra Rwoh. It would be fascinating to see what really went down between the former master and apprentice, and this could even mean showing the two battling, thereby revealing how Qimir got his scar. With Darth Plagueis’ appearance in The Acolyte ending, perhaps even Qimir’s connection to the Sith could be revealed.

4

Finn

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Close

Finn began as one of the most interesting characters in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but, like many sequel characters, Finn was sadly sidelined in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, bringing a swift end to his interesting arc. Finn was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as a defecting stormtrooper of the First Order, who begrudgingly accepted a role with the Resistance (although he was really only interested in saving Rey). The Force Awakens also heavily teased that Finn was Force-sensitive, even showing him wielding Anakin Skywalker’s iconic lightsaber twice.

Unfortunately, Star Wars all but abandoned that plot in the end, only ever dropping hints that Finn was Force-sensitive and had the potential to become a Jedi. A TV show or movie focused on Finn would therefore be a perfect way to ameliorate the damage done in the sequels. This show or movie could finally confirm Finn’s Force-sensitivity and perhaps even give him an arc as a Jedi. The question remains, in light of all that transpired, would John Boyega even be willing to return to the role?

3

Padmé Amidala

First Appeared In: Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Close

Many of Padmé Amidala’s most interesting stories have never appeared on the Star Wars screen. Specifically, the trilogy of canon Padmé books, The Queen’s Shadow, The Queen’s Peril, and The Queen’s Hope, all written by E.K. Johnston, reveal just how brilliant Padmé and her handmaidens really were. This includes how intentionally they used hair, makeup, and clothes to ensure Padmé’s safety, carry out a mission, and send subliminal messages.

In light of how Padmé died, this would also give Padmé a much better final story in Star Wars, as it would mean that her story on screen ended not with her losing the will to live after Anakin turned to the dark side but rather with her valiantly defending the people of Naboo and fighting for freedom and justice throughout the galaxy as a senator. As a massive bonus, this could also mean Natalie Portman returning to Star Wars, which would be incredible.

2

Omega

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Bad Batch

Close

Star Wars: The Bad Batch is one of Star Wars’ best shows, not only because it continued the stories of Clone Force 99 but also because its themes of family and forgiveness are true to the franchise’s core messages. Impressively, Omega managed to join the Bad Batch team without feeling like the odd one out or like she altered the group dynamics. Instead, Omega only enhanced the Bad Batch crew, and the parent-child relationship she developed with them (especially Hunter) was truly touching.

Omega also grew into an incredible character, constantly exhibiting bravery and self-sacrifice, particularly in The Bad Batch season 3. It was sad to see The Bad Batch come to an end; however, the Bad Batch season 3 ending suggested Omega could be returning, as it revealed that she went on to join the Rebellion as a pilot. This perfectly sets Omega up to return in an upcoming Star Wars show or movie. Hopefully, Omega will also have a leading role in any such movie or show, which she has more than earned.

Asajj Ventress

First Appeared In: Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Close

Finally, Asajj Ventress absolutely deserves to star as a leading character in her own show or movie. Ventress first appeared in The Clone Wars as a major antagonist. Originally, she was Count Dooku’s Sith assassin, but he eventually discarded her, leading her to become a bounty hunter with no Jedi or Sith affiliations. She wasn’t without any connections, though. Following Dooku casting her aside, Ventress reconnected with the Nightsisters of Dathomir, where she came from.

This Nightsisters connection would be interesting enough, but Star Wars could also explore Ventress’ return, which was confirmed in The Bad Batch. This would be particularly interesting given Ventress returned in The Bad Batch wielding a yellow lightsaber, hinting that she may now be on the light side of the Force. Each of these 10 Star Wars characters would be deserving of their own show or movie, but Asajj Ventress is arguably the most deserving of them all.
