Jurassic World Rebirth means the franchise will soon introduce even more dinosaurs, building up from the legacy of the previous six films. Not too long after Jurassic World Dominion came out, Universal Pictures confirmed that the series ending quite yet, with the announcement of Jurassic World Rebirth coming not long after. Jurassic World Rebirth‘s story will take place five years after the events of Dominion and will follow what happens when an equatorial expedition team gets stranded on a dino-infested island after their mission goes awry. Jurassic World Rebirth is currently set to premiere on July 2, 2025.

While some of the Jurassic World Rebirth cast has been revealed (including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Rupert Friend), not much has been said about what dinosaurs can expect to be seen. Even with six Jurassic Park/World movies already in the books, there are still tons of dinos that have yet to make an appearance. From adorable herbivores to massive predators, there is no shortage of potential candidates. While classics like the Tyrannosaurus rex and the Velociraptors will always have a place in viewers’ hearts, it’s time to explore which new dinos may finally get their chance to shine.

10 Dacentrurus
Not Your Average Stegosaur
Custom Image by Milica Djordjevic
Stegosaurus is among the most recognizable dinosaurs to ever walk the Earth, but not nearly as many people know this impressive dino from the same family. At around 26 feet long, the Dacentrurus is a massive herbivore with an effective built-in defense system. Though it would not have been able to run fast enough to evade predators, the Dacentrurus presents a formidable line of thick spikes along its back and tail. The last rows of spikes on its tail are especially long, making the tail a dangerous weapon when it has to be.
Plenty of dinosaurs seen in the Jurassic movies have been able to launch fearsome attacks on their prey, but few have been able to defend themselves as strongly as a Dacentrurus would. Even though this stunning dino is an herbivore, seeing it fight back against something like a Tyrannosaurus would certainly make for a thrilling scene. After all, it has been said that the spikes on the tail of a Dacentrurus are long enough to go straight through the leg of most predatory dinos.
9 Suchomimus
A Fearsome New Foe
Custom image by Debanjana Chowdhury
Every Jurassic World movie needs a terrifying threat to the human characters, and Suchomimus could easily fill that role. This large dinosaur is similar to Spinosaurus (which was featured in Jurassic Park III) but with an even more threatening head shape. Suchomimus has a skull very similar to that of a crocodile but on a significantly larger scale. Its narrow yet powerful jaw makes it difficult for other creatures to evade its swift attacks.

There are five different raptors in Chris Pratt’s Jurassic World movie trilogy, making it hard to keep track of what happens to each of Blue’s pack.
Another element that adds to the threat level of Suchomimus is its ability to hunt in the water. The fearsome creature was known to eat fish, eels, and other water-dwelling mammals. Since it has been confirmed that part of Jurassic World Rebirth will occur on the water, Suchomimus seems like a strong candidate to be considered. Its crocodile-like head and ability to navigate shallow aquatic environments make it certain to rock any boat that drifts its way.
8 Liaoningosaurus
Not All Dinosaurs Are Scary
Universal Pictures
Named for the Chinese province where it was discovered, Liaoningosaurus was one of the smaller dinosaurs to walk the Earth, standing at hardly a foot long. It is a member of the Ankylosaur family, though not nearly as powerful as its armored cousins. It does, however, have a similar protective layer over its back, functioning almost as a shell. The shape and structure of Liaoningosaurus indicate that it was also adept at gathering food in the water.

Liaoningosaurus would make a nice, non-threatening addition to the dinosaur cast of Jurassic World Rebirth. The tiny dino would serve as a great reminder that not all of these creatures are ginormous predators. Plus, Liaoningosaurus’ ability to thrive in semi-aquatic environments provides an easy way to introduce the pocket-sized dino to the film, which is expected to have scenes occurring on the water. Depending on how it is designed for the film, Liaoningosaurus even has the potential to be a pet-like creature for the main characters.
7 Erketu
A New Kind of Gentle Giant
With an average weight of 11,000 pounds, Erketu is certainly no small dinosaur. The most notable feature of Erketu is undoubtedly the creature’s massive neck. Erketu holds the honor of having the longest neck of any Sauropod to its body size. In fact, the creature’s neck may be nearly double the length of the rest of its body.
One of the most memorable moments of the Jurassic Park franchise was when the original characters first arrived on Isla Nublar, and took in the breathtaking sight of a living, breathing dinosaur for the first time. Erketu has the power to recreate the magic of the first Brachiosaurus seen in the film which started it all. Something about these long-necked dinosaurs is simply incredible, and a well-shot Erketu could certainly give audiences the feeling of witnessing these creatures for the first time all over again.
6 Rugops
Don’t Let the Smile Fool You
Rugops may not have quite the monstrous size of the Tyrannosaurus, or the startling speed of the Velociraptor, but it still has all the necessary tools to pose a major threat to any humans who encounter it. With a name meaning “Wrinkle Face,” it is no secret that Rugops is a very scary dinosaur. This Therapod has a series of strong, sharp bones running down the center of its face. Although its jaws were not always strong enough to take down larger dinosaurs, they had the strength to do some serious damage to humans.
One of the most striking features of Rugops is the result of the unusual structure of its jaws. The upper part of Rugops’ jaw naturally curves upward. Because of this, it is quite possible that the fearsome dinosaur appeared to be permanently smiling. Jurassic World Rebirth has the potential to include some very scary scenes if it chooses to feature this dino. The thought of this giant carnivore smiling at its prey before it attacks is enough to give any audience member the chills.
5 Sinosauropteryx
Even Tiny Dinosaurs Can Be Scary
Universal Pictures
Sinosauropteryx may only weigh one or two pounds, but that doesn’t mean it’s incapable of dealing with some major damage. These tiny carnivores are able to move quickly through dense areas, often making them an unseen threat to small animals. Sinosauropteryx is known for its tail, which is the longest (relative to body length) of any Therapod. Interestingly, Sinosauropteryx is among the earliest dinosaurs of which scientists can accurately confirm the color. These swift dinosaurs took on a stunning reddish-brown hue, making them a vibrant threat in the jungle.
Though they may not be as large and intimidating as most dinosaur types in Jurassic Park movies, Sinosauropteryx can be an interesting threat because of its deceptive appearance. Its colors and striped tail are reminiscent of a red panda, which could easily lure unsuspecting humans into a false sense of security. After all, these dinos are carnivores and would be bound to attack anyone trying to get a closer look.
4 Protoceratops
Excellent Option for a Friendly Dino
Over the years, the noble Triceratops has made an appearance in numerous Jurassic films, but its cousin, Protoceratops, has yet to be featured. Though in the same family as Triceratops, Protoceratops has a few key differences. For one, they are much smaller, only growing to be around six to eight feet long. Additionally, Protoceratops does not have the same eye-catching horns as its relatives. Instead, it has a large frill at the back of its skull, providing a form of shield for the back of its neck.
While audiences do love to see the huge, violent dinosaurs in action, friendlier dinosaurs have also remained a staple throughout the series. From the Brachiosaurus in Jurassic Park to the Stygimoloch in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, there is almost always at least one dinosaur that the human characters can admire without fear of being attacked. Protoceratops would be a great option to fill this role, given its unique look and non-predatory demeanor.
3 Utahraptor
A New, Terrifyingly Real Raptor
Custom Image by Kate Bove
The Jurassic films are no stranger to raptors. However, they have never featured what may be the most frightening one: the Utahraptor. At over twenty feet long, Utahraptor is the largest member of its family. There is also evidence to suggest that it may have had above-average intelligence in the dinosaur world and that it would attack its prey using stealthy ambush tactics. Aside from its serrated teeth and refined hunting tactics, the most fearsome trait of the Utahraptor is the sharp, sickle-like claw on each foot, used to quickly subdue its prey.
Since the very first film, raptors have played a vital role in both the Jurassic Park and the Jurassic World movies. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom even introduced a new hybrid dinosaur known as the Indoraptor, meant to be a bigger, scarier version of the original Velociraptors. With the Indoraptor being highly unlikely to return for Rebirth, the filmmakers have the perfect opportunity to welcome a new version of these creatures to the franchise. The Utahraptor is massive, stealthy, and (perhaps most frighteningly) a real dinosaur that once roamed the Earth.
2 Pachyrhinosaurus
A Stunning Dino With A Unicorn Horn
Custom Image by Glenn Bunn
Another underappreciated member of the Ceratopsidae family, Pachyrhinosaurus is a visually impressive dinosaur known for the unusual shape of its skull. The general build of Pachyrhinosaurus is similar to that of a Triceratops, but with a few features that give it its unique personality. First, these creatures proudly display a giant beak, which they use to help consume their plant-based diet. Second, Pachyrhinosaurus has multiple horns around its head, some of which even grow between its eyes, giving it the appearance of a prehistoric type of unicorn.
Related Complete Jurassic Park & World Timeline Explained
Starting 65-million years ago, the timeline of Jurassic Park and Jurassic World spans 29 years and includes 6 movies and Netflix’s Camp Cretaceous.
Pachyrhinosaurus would make another fun option for a non-threatening dinosaur, given its unique appearance and non-violent nature. This is not to say that the creatures would not stand a chance if attacked by predators, though. Pachyrhinosaurus can stand over twenty feet long, and the impressive horns on its head can certainly do some damage if need be. These dinos could serve a range of purposes within the film, being anything from graceful beings to admired, or intense creatures fighting hard to defend themselves.
1 Scorpios Rex
Another Hybrid Could Hit the Big Screen
Though not a real dinosaur, Scorpios Rex has been a key figure throughout the Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous animated series. Scoripios rex is said to be the product of blending the DNA of various creatures, including Tyrannosaurus, Velociraptor, and Carnotaurus, among others. In Camp Cretaceous, it is revealed that the hybrid dinosaur was deemed unfit to be shown to the public, due to its unappealing physical features. Regardless of its grizzly appearance, Scorpius rex possesses numerous attributes that would make it a thoroughly deadly threat.
Having Scorpius rex appear as an antagonist in Jurassic World Rebirth would be a thrilling experience for fans of Camp Cretaceous. Additionally, the hybrid dino would also make for a powerful, exciting new threat, even for those previously unfamiliar with it. The massive beast combines features of all the most intimidating dinosaurs throughout the franchise, making it the ultimate foe for this new addition.
