Regardless, the fact that these movies are so hard to find makes the effort worth it, as they are each an important part of movie history in their own right.

Porgy and Bess
has been added to the National Film Registry by The Library of Congress, considering it an “overlooked masterpiece” during an important time in the Civil Rights Movement.
When the film was initially released, it received poor reviews from critics. This led to the rights holder eventually allowing the rights to slip away, making Porgy and Bess another example of a film lost to a rights dispute. While there are bootlegs of the film in circulation, it is incredibly difficult to find a good copy, essentially making it a lost film.
