Netflix’s Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour is a concert documentary covering over 20 of Rodrigo’s songs—although there are several other Olivia Rodrigo songs missing from the film. Similarly to other concert films—such as the three versions of Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour—Rodrigo’s film covers songs she performed while touring for her sophomore album, GUTS. Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour was filmed at The Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, an ideal spot to cover a potential documentary. Rodrigo noticeably makes several changes throughout her tour, such as adding or removing songs from her setlist.

Furthermore, Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour features special guest Chappell Roan, who performs “HOT TO GO!” with Rodrigo. However, the concert film is a special occasion that does not occur at every show—although Chappell Roan was the opening musical act for several GUTS World Tour shows. Additionally, Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour does not include every song Rodrigo performed during the tour, given the number of changes to the setlist. Olivia Rodrigo’s discography is not particularly big, but there are still several amazing Olivia Rodrigo songs missing from the film.

One of the most noticeable songs missing from Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour is “Can’t Catch Me Now.” Rodrigo wrote the hit single for the film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. “Can’t Catch Me Now” was an exciting moment in Rodrigo’s career, given that it was the first occasion she got to write music for a film part of a massive franchise that she happens to be a fan of. The songwriting experience was different for Rodrigo because it was not about her personal life, making it a creative challenge for her.
I write a lot of my songs for my album from a very diaristic standpoint; I write them to process how I feel, which is so much fun. But this got me to flex new muscles to write a song for The Hunger Games through the eyes of another character, Lucy Gray. I think restriction is very inspiring to creatively. If you had every color and palette and any size canvas you’d want, it’d kind of feel overwhelming and you wouldn’t make anything particularly inspiring. But I think by restricting yourself, you can kind of force your brain to work in different ways and have a really fun time doing it. So while it was very much about Lucy Gray, I think I injected parts of myself into it too. I saw bits of myself in her; I admired her resilience, so I tried to embody all that and put it into the song.

Excluding “Can’t Catch Me Now” from Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour stings because Rodrigo actually performed the song for a handful of shows. Although she did not include it in the original setlist, “Can’t Catch Me Now” became part of the setlist beginning at the show in Miami, Florida, in between “Jealousy, Jealousy” and “Happier.” However, Rodrigo eliminated the song during her time in Dublin, Ireland. At the time, Rodrigo had recently added “So American” to her setlist, possibly replacing “Can’t Catch Me Now” despite Rodrigo performing the songs at different points in the concert.

“Stranger” is one of five new songs added to GUTS on the extended edition of the album, GUTS (Spilled). The song has a mellow, simplistic beat, while the lyrics describe Rodrigo moving on from a lost love. “Stranger” is one of the few songs from Olivia Rodrigo’s discography that she has never performed live, so it is no surprise that it does not appear in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour. However, it is still a great song, and it is disappointing that Rodrigo has never taken the opportunity to perform the ballad live.

“Hope Ur OK” is the final track on Olivia Rodrigo’s debut album, SOUR. She also performs the song during the Sour Tour. “Hope Ur OK” is a sweet track where Rodrigo describes the stories of several struggling kids while reaffirming her love and support for them. It is an excellent song to listen to when feeling alone, so it is somewhat shocking that Rodrigo did not include it as part of the tour’s setlist. However, there are only so many songs that Rodrigo can include for a concert, and unfortunately, “Hope Ur OK” did not make the cut.

Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour does not include “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back,” a song about a romantic relationship going in circles. The song is the fourth track on SOUR, and Rodrigo included it on the Sour Tour setlist. The track is also inspired by “New Year’s Day” by Taylor Swift, which is why Swift and Jack Antonoff have writing credits. During the Sour Tour, Rodrigo blended “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” and “Enough for You” into a single performance, a creative idea to include as many songs as possible while making the most of time.

6 Girl I’ve Always Been

“Girl I’ve Always Been” is a catchy track on GUTS (Spilled). The song is a short tune that describes Rodrigo refusing to change to appease anyone, firmly remaining proud of who she is, even if it does occasionally get her into trouble. “Girl I’ve Always Been” would have been a fun song to include in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour because of the mischievous lyrics and upbeat melody. It is also the type of song that can work as a choreographed musical number or a simple wind-down from an energetic track, illustrating the versatility of “Girl I’ve Always Been.”

5 Scared of My Guitar
Olivia Rodrigo’s Sophomore Album’s Extended Edition, GUTS (Spilled)
Close
One final song from GUTS (Spilled) that should be in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour is “Scared of My Guitar.” The track has a slow melody that describes the dreaded looming end of a relationship. Rodrigo is “scared of her guitar” because songwriting is the only place in her life where she must be truthful. Therefore, she can lie to her partner about being in love with them, but as a result, she avoids her guitar because it would mean facing the truth that she is not in love anymore.

“Scared of My Guitar” would have been an excellent opportunity to include in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour as a respite from the energetic musical numbers such as “Love Is Embarrassing” or “Obsessed.” Rodrigo also does not have many songs about falling out of love with a partner, so “Scared of My Guitar” could have diversified the setlist in terms of lyrical content. Hopefully, Rodrigo will perform “Scared of My Guitar” live one day and allow fans to see how she would translate this song into a live performance.

Olivia Rodrigo played the lead role, Nini-Salazar Roberts, in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series for three seasons before Olivia Rodrigo left to focus entirely on her music career. “All I Want” is one of two songs Rodrigo actually wrote for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. The song describes the complicated position Nini is in after learning about E.J.’s betrayal while reflecting on her past relationship with Ricky. It is a pivotal moment in Nini’s season 1 arc as she reaches a crossroads in both dynamics.
While it would be unusual for Olivia Rodrigo to include songs from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series in her concert film, “All I Want” was part of the Sour Tour setlist. Furthermore, Rodrigo began performing the song on the GUTS World Tour in Australia between “Favorite Crime” and “Deja Vu.” Therefore, it was surprising that Rodrigo waited until most of the tour was over to include the song. While “All I Want” is not in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour, several shows remain, possibly indicating that the song will be part of the setlist until the end.

“Out of the Old” is another solo that Olivia Rodrigo performs as Nini Salazar-Roberts in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. However, unlike “All I Want,” Rodrigo did not write this song. She has also never performed it live, leaving “Out of the Old” as a memento of her time in the show. Notably, Olivia Rodrigo has not performed any of Nini’s songs that she has not written herself, possibly indicating that she is only interested in singing her own songs unless there is a special guest, or she decides to cover a popular tune.

2 The Rose Song
A Song Olivia Rodrigo Wrote & Sang In High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 2
“The Rose Song” is another track Olivia Rodrigo wrote for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. According to People, showrunner Tim Federle had asked Rodrigo to write “a feminist song from the perspective of a rose,” a nod to Nini Salazar-Roberts’ role in her school’s musical in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2, where Nini plays the enchanted rose in Beauty & the Beast. It is a creative idea that shakes up the classic story. Furthermore, “The Rose Song” complements Nini’s character arc in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2.

Although Olivia Rodrigo performs “All I Want” live all the time, she has not given the same treatment to “The Rose Song,” and it is unknown why. It is possible that Rodrigo wrote “All I Want” inspired by elements of her personal life, whereas “The Rose Song” was inspired by a writing prompt from the showrunner. Regardless, it is certainly a missed opportunity, given that Rodrigo never performed “The Rose Song” live. It would have been a special treat to see it in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour.
1 You Never Know
A Song Olivia Rodrigo Sings In High School Musical: The Musical: The Series Season 3
One final song that Olivia Rodrigo should have included in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour is “You Never Know,” her final solo as Nini Salazar-Roberts in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Nini Salazar-Roberts’ time in the show’s third season is notably different from the previous seasons because Olivia Rodrigo’s role officially becomes smaller in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 3. Nini’s arc wraps up permanently as she decides to move to California instead of returning to Utah for senior year.

If that was her last appearance, then Olivia Rodrigo got a perfectly bittersweet sendoff in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 3.
Although Olivia Rodrigo did not write “You Never Know,” it would have been neat to see Rodrigo perform this song in Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour. “You Never Know” also represents a chapter closing for both Nini Salazar-Roberts and Olivia Rodrigo, so it is possible that Rodrigo wants to leave this song in the past and focus on her own music, which is ideal. However, “You Never Know” is still a missed opportunity for Olivia Rodrigo: GUTS World Tour, and it would have been fascinating to see Rodrigo perform the song live.
