From the breakout performances of the child actors playing the Pevensie children to Academy Award-winning icons, the magical world of Narnia was populated by some truly talented performers. Many of the Narnia actors went on to have truly acclaimed careers in the years since, as the child actors grew up and challenged themselves with historical dramas, political thrillers, and even shocking horror movies. Already established stars like Liam Neeson and Tilda Swinton, who played Aslan and the White Witch, continued to receive widespread acclaim and accolades for their subsequent roles across genres. As a true fantasy classic, The Chronicles of Narnia movies boast some serious star power.

While Anna Popplewell got her start on British television and had minor roles in movies like Thunderpants and The Girl with a Pearl Earring, her breakout role was as Susan Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia series. As the oldest sister and the second eldest Pevensie child, Susan appeared in all three produced films and was an important character throughout much of the book series. Popplewell captured Susan’s nature as the most sensible and serious of the Pevensie children, yet also revealed her intense bravery and enjoyable sense of fun.
Popplewell’s most significant post-Narnia role was with a leading role in the historical drama Reign. As Lady Lola, one of Mary, Queen of Scots’ handmaidens throughout the show’s first three seasons, Popplewell was embroiled in a series of intense affairs and eventually paid dearly for her accidental betrayal of Queen Elizabeth. As a campy and fun historical drama, Reign was well worth watching for the way it deconstructed gender and power during the late 16th century.

9 Georgie Henley
The Diplomat (2023 – Present)
Georgie Henley made her acting debut at just 10 years old as Lucy Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia, a role she reprised for all three produced films. As the youngest child, Lucy was the one who first discovered the wardrobe, which took the children into the magical land of Narnia and formed a deep connection with the world, being particularly close to Aslan. While Henley was still just a child, she played a young Jane Eyre in a BBC miniseries adaptation of the novel and later gained a main role as Meg Tudor in the historical drama The Spanish Princess.

However, viewers may recognize Henley in recent years for her supporting role as Pensy on the Netflix political thriller The Diplomat, starring Keri Russell as a recently appointed U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom. As the Winfield House assistant, Henley was almost unrecognizable from the young child audiences first met in Narnia. With real acting talent and a major franchise role to her name, it’s no surprise that Henley has decided to show her skills in this clever, more adult-oriented political thriller.

Out of all the actors who appeared in The Chronicles of Narnia series, Peter Dinklage has had one of the most impressive careers in the years since. With a form of dwarfism known as achondroplasia, Dinklage has long advocated for more three-dimensional roles and has avoided cliched parts that lean into negative stereotypes or mocking portrayals regarding those with dwarfism. Dinklage played Trumpkin in Prince Caspian, a practical and skeptical dwarf during the reigns of King Miraz and King Caspian X.
Dinklage’s most notable role in years since remained in the fantasy genre as he gained worldwide fame for playing Tyrion Lannister in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. Tyrion was one of the show’s most popular characters, due in large part to Dinklage’s impeccable way with words and incredible comedic timing. Following this, Dinklage has appeared in everything from the X-Men franchise, as Eitri in Avengers: Infinity War, and even in the movie adaptation of the musical Wicked.

7 James McAvoy
X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
While the career of James McAvoy has gone from strength to strength as he teamed with M. Night Shyamalan for a challenging performance in the psychological thriller Split or as the adult Bill Denbrough in IT Chapter Two, one of his early film roles was as Mr. Tumnus in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This memorable role saw McAvoy play a faun, the first creature Lucy encountered after she entered the world of Narnia. As a reluctant servant of the White Witch, Mr. Tumnus’s character represents the conflict between courage and cowardice.

McAvoy has something in common with his fellow Narnia cast member Peter Dinklage, as they both appeared in the semi-rebooted prequel X-Men movies. As a young version of Charles Xavier, McAvoy had a lot to live up to as he sought to recapture the role so intensely associated with Patrick Stewart in X-Men: First Class. While McAvoy did a great job, he truly came into his own in X-Men: Days of Future Past as this sequel thrillingly brought together the two alternative timelines of the X-Men universe, and McAvoy came face-to-face with his older self.

Liam Neeson was already a household name by the time he appeared in The Chronicles of Narnia film series. As an actor of serious acclaim who excelled in everything from the Irish biographical drama Michael Collins to Steven Spielberg’s WWII masterpiece Schindler’s List, it took an actor of Neeson’s stature to get across the intense wisdom and power of Aslan in Narnia. As a talking lion and the King above all High Kings in Narnia, Aslan was one of the most iconic characters in both the movies and the original books by C.S. Lewis.
With a career that has included practically every genre of filmmaking, it’s tough to say what Liam Neeson’s best movie was, although he certainly made an impression as Bryan Mills, the ex-Green Beret and former CIA agent with a particular set of skills, in Taken. Neeson’s role in Taken and its sequels signaled the beginning of a new era in his career as an action hero that’s included plenty of nail-biting thrillers and over-the-top chase-filled action movies.

However, it was in The Grand Budapest Hotel that Swinton gave one of her best performances as the elderly, wealthy widow Madame D, for whom Gustave was framed for murder. William Moseley got his acting start when he was just 11 in a television film adaptation of Cider with Rosie before later gaining his breakout role as Peter Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia. Moseley appeared in all three films and even reigned in Narnia as High King Peter the Magnificent. While Moseley had since continued to appear in fantasy movies like the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, it was on television that he gained his most notable post-Narnia role.
Moseley played Prince Liam Henstridge on the E! soap opera The Royals, which told a fictional story about a United Kingdom royal family and the seedy scandals they try to keep away from the public eye. With plenty of melodrama and a real sense of fun, The Royals was a mischievous take on celebrity culture and royalty that made for an enjoyably campy piece of guilty pleasure television.
